"Ahhh, what is it? Aren't you grateful enough that I left you alone today? Or are you desperate for me to annoy you, huh!?" Yeonjun's voice carried that familiar teasing tone, a mix of irritation and amusement.
"I need to talk to you," Beomgyu said, his voice trembling slightly.
Silence. The kind of silence Beomgyu feared. He shouldn't have said that. He already regretted his decision. Yeonjun's face was turning into something he couldn't quite read. Oh shit! He expected him to scream at him any second now.
"Sit."
"H-huh? W-w-what?!"
"Dumbhead, sit in the car."
"Why?"
"Didn't you need to, like, talk to me or something?"
"Yeah, but like, what's the relation between that and me sitting in your car?"
"How else—bro, just do whatever you want. Don't annoy me."
"Sorry, sorry, sorry," Beomgyu repeated, embarrassed and a bit scared, as he made his way to the passenger seat.
Once he was settled, Yeonjun turned to him. "What happened?"
"Uhh, so my friend Hyunjin h—"
"Need help proposing to him?"
"What? No! He has a date."
"So?"
"With..."
"With whom, bro? Why are you annoying me!?"
"Ahhh, he has a date with Bomi!"
"......"
"W-what?" Yeonjun's face fell, a mix of hurt and shock. Though it was obvious he didn't like her, he still looked pained by the news.
"Where?"
"At the café right beside my house."
"When?"
"I don't know, I haven't asked."
"Call him."
At the same time, coincidentally, Hyunjin calls Beomgyu. Talk about timing.
"Hey! You were supposed to hel—"
"Yeah, yeah, what time is it?" Beomgyu asked, quickly glancing at Yeonjun, who was staring at him with an intensity that made him gulp.
"Oh, in like 10 minutes, I'm supposed to reach!"
"Oh my god! Quickly, show me!"
"Yeah, yeah, calm down! See, white t-shirt or this black v-neck?"
"Dude, the black v-neck looks WAAAAYYY better. You'll look hot. Make sure to tie your hair, she'll drool over you!"
"Okayyyy, thank you so, so, so, so, so much!"
"Byeeeeee."
"Bye!!!!"
Beomgyu looked over at Yeonjun because he had started driving. "It's like right there," he said, pointing toward the big building behind his house.
"Yeah, you could just stop so I could get out."
"You're coming with me."
"What?"
"Are you deaf!?"
"No, but I-i-I w-w-why d-do I nee-d-d t-to g-go t-t-though?"
He didn't reply, nor did he stop the car.
"But seriously, Yeonjun, why do I have to go?"
"Because," he said with the seriousness of someone imparting ancient wisdom, "we need to see this for ourselves."
"But she's your girlfriend! Why drag me into this?"
"Exactly. She is my girlfriend, who YOU found is cheating on me"
"I-I I know my sister is a bitch, but do you seriously think I need to come along?"
Yeonjun shrugged. "Desperate times, desperate measures."
They pulled up in front of the café, and Beomgyu felt a wave of anxiety. He wasn't dressed for this. His hair probably looked like he had been electrocuted, and he definitely wasn't ready to face Bomi and Hyunjin on their date.
As they got out of the car, Beomgyu muttered, "I'm going to die! If she finds out she'll get mom into making me do the dishes for weeks! maybe even months! oh no what if i dont get to see the BTS free concert? how am i going to li-"
"You talk so much don't you?," Yeonjun said, smirking.
They walked into the café, and Beomgyu instantly spotted Hyunjin sitting nervously at a table, fiddling with his phone. Bomi hadn't arrived yet, which was both a relief and a new source of panic.
"Okay, what now?" Beomgyu whispered.
"Now," Yeonjun said, clapping a hand on Beomgyu's shoulder, "we make sure she doesn't get away with this."
"Yeonjun, this is crazy. What are we going to do, spy on them?"
"Exactly," Yeonjun said, pulling Beomgyu to a table with a perfect view of Hyunjin's. "We'll stay here and watch."
"I can't believe I'm doing this," Beomgyu muttered, sinking into his seat.
"Hey, it's for a good cause. We need to know the truth."
Just then, Bomi walked in. Hyunjin's face lit up, and he jumped up to greet her, nearly knocking over his chair in the process. Yeonjun and Beomgyu exchanged glances. Yeonjun's jaw tightened, but he remained silent.
As Hyunjin and Bomi settled into their date, Yeonjun and Beomgyu pretended to be engrossed in their own conversation while keeping an eye on the couple.
"This is so awkward," Beomgyu whispered. "What if they see us?"
"They won't," Yeonjun assured him. "Just act natural."
"Natural? I'm sitting here with my bully, spying on my best friend who's on a date with your girlfriend. How is that natural?"
Yeonjun shot him a look. "Just shut up and watch."
As the date came to an end, Hyunjin got up and hugged Bomi, being the gentlemen he is, he didnt kiss her or anything, but Bomi pulled him and kissed him, leaving him both shy and red.
