The Return

It's been almost three years since I've been back, I say this to myself as I sit in first class looking out at the white clouds above. New York was fun and playing in the NFL for the NY Giants was a dream come true but come renewal contract time my only reaction after playing for three years is to go back to my hometown. L.A is where home is. I miss the culture I miss the warmth but most importantly I miss my brothers!

"What are you thinking about over there?" I look at my wife and smile as she nudges me and she lays her head on my shoulder, life has sure changed since i left three years ago.

"...I'm thinking how mad my mom is gonna be when i tell her i eloped without her blessing" i sigh almost forgetting the even bigger news i have to share when i get home.

"Your still on about that? Your grown spence...she'll understand..." my wife replies back. 

"I think you underestimate how much of a momma's boy i really am" i say as we both laugh.

"Hey, it was a quiet ceremony between two people who love each other..nothing major no relatives no bystanders just us! that's what made it so special" she finishes as i nod agreeing even though having a big wedding was always the dream for me, but the heart wants what it wants. I look out my window and gaze while the woman on the intercom announces will arrive in L.A. in 5 minutes. I smile to myself almost too giddy to think about anything else but seeing my family.

" Are the tables set up? Are the caterers done cooking? Did my Aunt Grace call yet?" Chris says overwhelmed walking around the venue/ restaurant going crazy. 

" Babe, will you please calm down before you blow a gasket!" I say catching up to him and kissing his cheek smiling from ear to ear.

" I'm sorry babe but everything has to be perfect for Spencer's homecoming he hasn't been home in almost a year to visit and now he's moving back to Los Angeles for good this has to be perfect nothing can be out of place!"

" I get that but -" I start to say. 

" It's almost like I'm not the big brother and he is!" Darnell says with one of his sons on his hips while the other two run inside running around the restaurant.

" Well, I have to be because if I didn't none of this shit would get done" Chris goes up to Darnell to give him a hug while squeezing little two-year-old Essiah's cheek as he laughs. 

" You are still blood so of course you're going to do the work where's ma at?" Darnell asks as Kia comes walking in and I run up to her excited, but I don't squeeze to hard because of what's in front of her.

"Woah let me give the baby on broad some room.." I say rubbing Kia's medium sized belly as she looks down smiling.

" We just got the sex of the baby today!" Kia says excitedly and I immediately hug her.

"ohhh tell me tell me tell me!" i say jumping up and down.

"Nope! we're waiting on spencer to get here.."

"Why? We all know it's gonna be a boy again mom had all boys you're gonna have all boys just accept the fact!" Chris chimes in as he walks around making sure everything is in order, i smile cause of course Ms. Grace isn't his real mom but i find it cute that he calls her ma with him living with her since he was six years old.

" Hey, it could be a girl please please please be a girl!" Kia says looking up at the heavens as we all hear a crash, and two little boys laugh as they run out from the kitchen.
