I glanced at Cedric from across the Great Hall during dinner. His hair shone in the candlelight, and he was laughing.
Earth to Ellie," Draco nudged me under the table.
"Huh?" I blinked, turning my gaze to Draco.
"Have you told him?" Draco mumbled to me.
"No," I sighed. "I want to, but–"
"But, nothing. It was just a kiss," Draco shrugged. "It's not like you're together yet, so it was fine," he added with a nod.
I swallow hard. It wasn't that I'd kissed Draco, it was that I liked kissing Draco. "Y-yeah," I nod. "You're right."
"Hey, budge up," Enzo's voice broke through the chatter, accompanied by a forceful nudge that made me shift over on the bench. Behind him stood Theodore Nott, who'd grown a lot since last year. He was undeniably cute, and Pansy's sly grin only added to my suspicion.
"Come on, have a seat," Enzo gestured to the new arrival, already loading up his plate with food.
"Why's Theo joining us?" Draco leaned forward, peering past me to Enzo with a hint of curiosity in his tone.
"He's going to be part of our group now," Enzo clarified, shooting Draco a meaningful glance that hinted at something I couldn't quite grasp.
"Ah," Draco acknowledged, catching onto Enzo's insinuation. "Nice to see you, Theo," he nodded in greeting.
Pansy began flirting away with Theodore. I looked at Draco, but he hadn't seemed to care. I'd seen them snogging in the lounge so I assumed they were together now. I guess not.
Before I could dwell on it further, Enzo's voice cut through the silence, accompanied by his trademark smirk. "So, Ellie, you and Cedric shagged yet?" he teased, his tone playful.
I couldn't help but laugh at his boldness. "No, Enzo, unlike you, Cedric actually wants more than just a quick shag," I retorted, nudging him playfully.
Enzo chuckled, his mouth full of potatoes. "Fair point," he conceded between bites. "But are you two a thing now?" he pressed, his curiosity evident.
I hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to answer. "Um, I'm actually not sure," I admitted, my voice trailing off uncertainly.
Before I could elaborate further, Draco's groan cut through the air, his annoyance palpable. "Bloody hell, do we have to talk about that?" he interjected sharply, his frustration clear.
Enzo, undeterred by Draco's outburst, persisted with his questioning. "Oh, come on, Draco, don't be such a killjoy," he protested, his tone pleading. "We're just curious."
But Draco was having none of it. "Well, then, stop being curious," he snapped back, his irritation evident as he shut down the conversation once and for all.
With Draco's harsh words hanging in the air, the remainder of dinner passed in relative quiet, punctuated only by the incessant flirting between Pansy and Theodore. It was embarrassing, actually.
As dinner ended, we all waited outside, waiting for Dumbledoor to announce us to come in. Today, people were to be chosen from the goblet of fire for the triwizard tournament. Cedric found me amongst the crowd.
