I have always hated my scars but I no longer hide them, not even the new ones that crawl up my arm and down my side, only stopping there thanks to the passer-by who pulled me out and smothered the flames after the drunk driver hit us. Graham instilled in me that they tell the story that made me into the boy that he has come to know and love so I wear them with pride. I'm perfect in his eyes and that's all that matters.
My birthday cake was chocolate with fourteen candles delicately placed into the shape of a heart, Graham giving me a wink when I saw it. Our kitchen was packed with our families, some of Graham's friends from school, and quite a few of my own, all singing me happy birthday. When I blew out my candles, Graham leaned over and kissed me, my cheeks heating even though we had been together almost six months.
"What did you wish for?" He asked me with that funny lopsided smile.
I smiled back, shaking my head gently. I wouldn't tell him this but I didn't wish for anything. Everything was perfect.
"I love you," I told him and he kissed me again.
