Chapter 5: Broken trust
It was getting darker. Even Pakhi's steps seemed as if they were keeping up with the darkness.
Pakhi kept on increasing her steps with her increasing heartbeat.
She was scared.
Suddenly a man in hood started following her.
She started to walk as if she was running from something.
Or someone.So did the man.
He followed her, with the same pace.
Both of their pace quickened,
now, pakhi was actually running. She sprinted towards her campus.
The man followed. He was running like a beast trying to catch his prey.
Pakhi had tears in her eyes.
She was really scared by now.
Maybe terrified would be a better interpretation.
She did her best, so she can make it to the gate and get near the guard, Raamu.
If she went near, then she'd be alright. She'll get help.
But, to her dismay, the guard wasn't around. He was full asleep.
By now the hoodie man became visible. He had removed his hoodie.
He was— before Pakhi could think...the man took her by force and started shutting her mouth.
Her sobs were turning into muffling cries, as the man started to touch her inappropriately.
She was scared. She wanted to run away.
She wanted someone to come and rescue her.
But to no avail. No one came.
No one saw. No one heard.
Her clothes were however not torn.
It was as if, the man did the unthinkable but by planning.
He must've felt that he'd definitely get in trouble if anyone found out the suspicious thing.
Pakhi was left their like a used mattress or a doll who had been ripped by playing aggressively with it.
Her cheeks were puffy and red.
Same thing with her eyes.
Her cheeks were stained with tear droplets. Her eyes closed.
She was shaking. But wasn't in her senses.
Dizzy, shaking body, cold night.
Her clothes were in a good position.
It was opposite with her.
At 3 a.m, in morning, the guard, Raamu, woke up.
He came to piss.
He saw a girl lying down in the middle of the road.
Instead of calling police, he woke her up.
She shivered.
As if she felt the same monster's grip.
She was about to scream.
But she came to realise, the wasn't here.
He must've ran away.
She had tears. She was about to explain. But the guard, Raamu, shushed her.
Telling her to keep quiet for her sake.
He knew what had happened, well Pakhi's situation made it more obvious.
She nodded while suppressing her sobs.
Nobody was awake yet.
She went towards the bathroom.
The man gave her a spare of clothes, that he had bought for his dear daughter's upcoming birthday.
He told her to not tell anyone and inform her parents after her college was over.
And she didn't say anything.
Hesitated, she took the clothes and came back to her room.
She thought to forget everything and keep her mouth shut.
Who's even going to believe her!?!
She has no family.
The orphanage took care of her for years.
Now she paid that debt by getting in a good high school/boarding school and through scholarship test.
She's an academic genius, afterall.
She sighed with sadness.
She couldn't utter a word against her perpetrator.
She knew everything.
Pakhi knew who did this to her.
But Alas! Nobody will have remorse.
They'll not believe her.
She went to bed and closed her eyes.
Having nightmares about that incident the same day.
Now, she'll never ever trust anyone.
Anyone with a hood.
Anyone with two sparkling eyes, in the night.
Anyone but a man, who lurks in shadow, waiting for his prey, waiting for his opportunity, waiting for his thirst to be satisfied.
With voices echoing, her head spinning, muffled cries and the same nightmare she'll have every night.
Once again, a victim was kept quiet. Sleeping with soaked pillow.
Crying her to sleep from the time, when the incident occurred and ripped apart the innocent heart, in the fright.
She didn't have anyone to rely upon.
Now, she'll be terrified of darkness till eternity.
