Harry's POV

I take more air into my lungs and shoot a quick glance behind me at Niall who's got his eyebrows knitted together at the top of his forehead. I sigh and place the phone on the desk in front of me, muting it on my end in the process.

"I can't," I whisper to the two men standing behind me.

"You've got to," says the only woman in the room. I blanch visibly and Niall gulps loudly.

I scratch at one of the many bracelets adorning my thin arms and meet her cold brown eyes.

"Julia, she's such a sweet girl," I attempt quietly.

"You don't even know her," the woman reprimands. "Take the plunge, Harold."

I sigh and shake my curls before tugging at them in frustration.

"But, this doesn't feel right," I breathe, but I pick up the shiny, and formerly innocent iPhone and un-mute it.

I stroke my fingertips over the clover tattooed on my wrist, place the phone to my trembling lips and gulp before saying:

"Kara?"

"Hm?" she murmurs, "Harry, I thought you'd died!"

'I am dying,' I think as I close my eyes to keep back the tears at the crime I'm about to commit. Niall grabs my arm in silent support and I sigh, hesitating. Julia slaps my back forcefully to get me to speak up.

"Will you please be my girlfriend? I don't know what it is about you, but I just can't seem to get you out of my head."

I look up slowly, opening my eyes, and Julia urges me to say more.

"I won't stop until you say yes," I add on a shaky breath.

There's a pregnant pause and I shut my eyes against the words again.

"Sure," she chirps back, "but this has to be a joke, right?" she asks me sweetly.

Her American voice drips with skepticism.

"Yeah," I chuckle sardonically but know she doesn't hear the truth saturating my tongue when I add, "A sick one at that."

"Wait, you're really serious, Harry?" she asks me again quietly.

I hold my breath before hesitantly replying, "Kara, I just want to see where we can go from here. I want to try this with you, yeah? Please? Just let me show you I can love you."

The phone line is silent and everyone in the room holds their breath. Niall's scared eyes meet mine and he squeezes my arm tightly while we await her life-changing answer.

"Harry, I don't know," she begins and Julia lets out an amazed gasp, "Why do you even want to date me? We just met."

"It's gotta be you," I respond with the first thing that comes to mind.

She lets out a shaky laugh at my choice of words.

"You can't win me over with your own song title, Styles. At least be a little original," she responds strongly.

I can't help but grin. Not only is the girl pretty, but she seems to have a strong head on her shoulders, as well.

"Kara, do you know how many girls would kill you if they knew you were vying away from me right now?" I ask her incredulous, changing tactics drastically.

"Which is exactly why I want to know why you're picking me," she counters in a sassy tone that would put even Louis to shame, "Any girl in the world would be at your beck and call. So, why me, Harry?"
