"So you're telling me that a wolf sized dog ran up and down the fire escape to deliver three baby kittens to you and that you could've sworn you've seen its eyes before?" Dee shook his head in disbelief. "You get yourself wrapped up into a lot of random shit Starr."

"Yeah, well dating you never helped." Dee was a druid that worked for a pack just a couple hours south of LA. I didn't know what he was until I was looking at places out in New Mexico and found a sequoia tree in the middle of pines. Sequoia's natural habitat is southern California and not quite so far out east, so it was a bit of a surprise when I came across it. I had asked Dee about it because he was knowledgeable about most forestry and animals. He came clean to me with the promise that I would not harm that tree. If I did, I would hurt him.

We didn't split because of the tree, I just couldn't handle the amount of extra drama that was attached to him and the pack he oversees. I could not find it within myself to possess the desire to open myself up to the dangers of living in Beacon.

"I thought we agreed that we parted ways peacefully?" Dee asked with a sarcastic smile. "I mean, you did leave with quite a powerful, oh what's the word, mark left on me."

"I slept with you once, and that was a mistake in and of itself. I'm not doing you again." I stepped back and placed my back against the counter. His dark eyes carefully tracked my movement.

"That's fine, I found someone else. Someone that's a little more fulfilling." I tried to keep my expression off my face. We split ways and that was that. I'm not falling back into old patterns. Not after I built a safe one. "Anyways, I recommend getting them checked out at a local vet office, and if you want to keep them, get them tagged."

He gingerly picked up the black and white cat. "This one may need a little extra care. She seems to be missing a couple nutrients that the mother cat typically would give them. You're going to have a couple sleepless nights if you keep them. Are you keeping them?"

"I think I might. I need something to keep me grounded on my bad days. I can't bear the idea of separating them, even though I think the tabby one came from a different litter." I gently brushed my fingers against the tabby one's fur.

"I brought some formula for them and remember to feed them on their sides. Otherwise they could choke. There should be enough to hold them for tonight. Visit the vet tomorrow and get a better examination done for them." Dee placed the kitten back down into the bassinet. "I'll be heading out now. If something bad happens you have my number. I'll pick it up as soon as possible."

"Thank you." I said as he walked towards the door.

"No problem."
