I walked straight up to the guard at the front desk with Cameron jogging to stop me. "I'd like to see suspect Richard Grant." I say resting my arms in the desk in front of me. The guard looked up at me and paused from shuffling through paperwork. He smirked.
"And what authority do you have to do that!" He said standing up. He wasn't much taller then me but the height difference was still subtle. I began to speak but Cameron cut me off.
"Mine." He took out his wallet. "Cameron Goodkin, former C. I. A agent, with the governmental experiment committee." He then proceeded to show the guard his badge.
(Authors Note: The governmental experiment committee isn't a real thing.... sorry to disappoint you😂 Back to story)
The guard observed his badge and nodded once before leading us to a room with the label "Interrogation Room". He unlocked it with the rustiest key on the chain. And we entered.
There in the room was a table as well as a glass window and computer. The window overlooked yet another room in which a well kept man sat in a chair with clenched fists while a police officer spoke to the man. In the room we were in stood a tall brown haired, brown eyed man who was observing the scene with his hands against the table. The second he heard the door open his focus turned to the people who entered. He looked at Cameron. "Who the hell are you? Who let you in here?" He looked at me and a different look took over his eyes. He leaned against the table. "And who are you?" He said with a calmer tone.
"Not interested." I said back crossing my arms but my tone was playful. I smiled. He could give us answers. "I'm Kirsten Clark, with the C.I.A investigating the Audrey Catcher case." Cameron stepped in awkwardly.
"I'm Cameron Goodkin, also with the C.I.A," The man nodded and then refocused on the people and I looked at Cameron incredulously. He looked at me defensively."What? Stretch what's with the look?"
"Well considering I work with the C.I.A and you're with me, it's implied that we work together." I say to him. The man chuckles at that and I turn towards him. "Who are you?" I asked the man crossing my arms again.
"Detective Fisher with the L.A. PD. and may I ask the reason you are here to see this interrogation." He asked. This time Cameron stepped up and says the right thing.
"Our boss requires us to watch over the interrogation and discover if you're asking the right questions." Cameron sticks his chin out on the last word. The detective keeps his mouth in a straight line and his eyes cold.
"Very well you may watch from here." He crossed his arms while his phone rang. He picked it out of his pant pocket and looked at the Caller I.D. "I have to take this." He began to exit but turned back quickly and said. "Don't touch anything!" He left then. The second he left I automatically sat down in the chair that was sitting at the desk and turned the volume up on the computer which was recording the conversation below.
"When was the last time you saw Audrey?" I hear the police officer say. I can see the gears in Richard's head clank around searching for the right lie.
"Friday night. We were at the same party I saw her leave with someone who I think was in a black overcoat." Richard says forming tears in his eyes. But I can see him pinching his leg hard which is the true source of the pain.
"That little asshole." Cameron mutters under his breath, seeing his hand on his leg. While Cameron and I could completely see what a faker and liar Richard was, the police officer couldn't. He was clearly new and showed sympathy towards the murderer.
"Do you know who this man she left with was?" The police man asked. I saw Richard give a slight smile knowing he had this cop fooled.
"Um I think his name was Matthew Greenery?" I heard Richard say convincingly. "I just want you to find who killed her!" He says sniffling.
"That's it!" I muttered before pressing my finger in the talk button of the intercom. "Ask about Matthews outfit." I spoke clearly as I saw Cameron's face turn the lightest possible shade of white. The police guard looks confused for a split second before asking the question. Richard freezes and responds a black overcoat with jeans and a red tshirt. I laugh after taking my hand off of the speak button.
"Kirsten what the hell are you doing??" Cameron says through gritted teeth. I pressed the talk button again.
"I thought you said you weren't sure." I said and then I turned to face Cameron he still looked annoyed but had caught on to what had just happened. So had he cop.
"I thought you said you weren't sure. " the cop said suspiciously. Richard turned pale. "You're lying." Richard stuttered.
"No no I'm um well I was covering um up for myself!!" He hastily explained his face turning red. He began to break down. "It was me!! I can't deal with it! I love her she's never loved me!!" The cop grinned and spoke into his ear piece 'We've got him detective.'
"Yes!" Cameron jumped up. I smiled and shook my head at him. Case closed. Couldn't have gone smoother.
"What? What the? What is this?" The two of us turn towards the door. Fisher stands there shocked. Cameron mutters under his breath. 'Don't talk to her like that.' I pretend not to hear him.
"We've just proved him guilty. You're welcome!" I say brightly hopping out of the chair and going to leave. He stops me at the door. Cameron steps in front of me clearly pissed that he's go to stop me. But Fisher ignores him and continues with his rage.
"How did you do that? I could arrest you for pretending to act as a police officer!" He says pointing at the room. I see Cameron's balled up fists and know he's going to burst.
"Do you play soccer?" I ask him. He looks taken aback. "Well I do. And you should argue with the referee!" I say leaning back against the desk. Cameron takes ahold off the situation.
"What gives you the right to talk to someone of higher intelligence and higher authority in that manner? You'd be lucky if we didn't file a report against you!" With that he grabs my hand and pulls me out of the office. We storm down the steps and leave. Walking down the steps a smile finds my face as I realize this was an action if jealousy. Why do I smile at that? Who cares? It's really, funny I guess you could call it I think.
"Get in the car we are going straight to Maggie to complain about,"
"Easy pitbull I'm safe the bad detective isn't gonna hurt you anymore." I say, sarcasm dripping from every word as I ruffle his hair much like you would do to a dog. He groans and mutters, 'Not the hair!' But still his smile overwhelms his face and it makes me..... happy. I think.. Or maybe something else..
