So Blue is lovesick, or he supposes that's the word for it. And no amount of alcohol can make him forget it.
Listlessly, he tries to knock his letter opener off his desk with a swipe of his hand and comes away from it wincing, his pinky finger throbbing for some reason or another. He takes it in his other hand and cradles it close to his chest while he bites back childish tears.
He said he loved Yellow, and he meant it, and that did not go well. And now he has to go and think he's falling in love with a penpal—someone he's never even met—who happens to not care about relationships whatsoever, even the relationship with his very own mother! How does he think this is going to go?
Blue bites his lip as he stares at Red's latest letter—unopened. He hasn't been able to bring himself to read it just yet, despite the faint desperation he feels for any contact with Red.
Oh! And did he forget that Red's a man?! As if he'd know what to do with him if he could even have him.
Blue slaps himself once for good measure and then decides he might as well read the letter and get it over with. He's an adult; he can take it.
To My Dumbass Blue, Yeah, the opening line is hitting a bit too close to home right now. 'Dumbass' is about right.
I'm glad I could make you laugh. Blue sighs. What do I like to do for fun? I like exploring and battling and meeting new pokémon. I hatched an Azurill recently, and Pikachu has adopted it as his son. The way the two of them act together, I actually think Azurill doesn't understand why it can't use thunderbolt. I've sent a lot of my team back to your grandfather for now while I'm stuck raising babies. If Brock is suited to the role of first gym leader, then Pikachu is suited to the role of mother, and I think Charizard's the dad. He seriously overestimates how hard he can play with the baby pokémon.
So you think you're suited to the role of pokémon professor? Is that your dream? What gym were you leader of and when? I'm finding it harder and harder to believe that I haven't met you before.
I've had sex before. Blue's eyes widen. That's nothing. Great. Not a virgin but still just as hopeless to make a relationship with. Dating is just something I've never really thought of, I guess.
Since you know the art of letter writing, is that why your stationary is so frilly? Blue's brow furrows in frustration.
Your Dumbass,
Red
And at that, his brow smooths. 'Yours,' he insists. Perhaps there's something to trust in that.
When Blue moves to put the letter back in its envelope for safekeeping, he notices something else is inside of it: a bright pink Luvdisc bracelet, the kind Red wrote to him about—that all the couples in Hoenn are wearing.
Blue's eyes go wide. Is that what he means by 'yours?'
Blue bites his lip while he thinks for a moment. It used to be that there was only one person he would go to when he wanted advice like he does now...
Blue decides to do it. He decides to call Yellow. They're still friends.
"Blue?" she answers the pokégear quickly, surprise evident in her voice.
"Hi, Yellow. I was...wondering if I could talk to you about something."
"Of course, Blue. I only want the best for you, you know." Her voice has turned gentle, and Blue is sure she means that but...
"Uh-huh," he can't help but brush off her words, "So I think I'm falling for someone new."
"That's great, Blue! Who is she?"
"Well, she's a he, and he's my penpal that you suggested I get."
"Oh, wow, you met with him already? Not to mention the 'him' part. I didn't know you liked boys." Yeah, Blue's not going to touch the issue of his sexuality right now.
"Well, no, but I-" Blue starts to answer the 'met' question.
"What do you mean you're falling in love then?" Now Yellow just sounds incredulous.
And Blue is starting to feel angry. "He's nice, okay? He gets me. I-"
"Blue, you can't fall in love with someone just because they're nice. Don't do what you did to me to him. You don't know what you're saying-"
Blue hangs up on her, clenching the Luvdisc bracelet tightly in one hand. He'll just have to figure this one out for himself.
