The cicadas' soft buzzes thrummed throughout the valley, going up and down in pitch, occasionally harmonizing with each other. Heat waves could be seen with the naked eye, radiating to the sky and dusting everything with a mirage-like haze. It was deemed the hottest day of the year, reaching a temperature of 36° at it's peak.

With everybody staying inside that day, you and Itachi figured the heat to be a gift from some god.

While the other villagers of the Hidden Leaf did paperwork, or housework, or sat on couches with fans all day, the two of you found some place to be.

Deep in a forest near the Uchiha compound, just over the village walls - where the trees within and out blurred - your valley sat, far away from prying eyes. It didn't take long for you and Itachi to lay claim to the small plot of land; by carving your initials into the thickest tree around, the valley was yours, only to ever be shared with Itachi.

In your infinite conversation with the boy, the proposition to spar came up - and you were never one to turn down a little scrap.

The scuffle broke out, and you swept Itachi's legs. You stepped away from your friend, who now sat in the plush green that was tickling your heels, looking up at you with a smarmy grin and a cocked eyebrow.

"Get up."

Itachi picked himself up, brushing the loose dirt from his clothes, before getting into an offensive stance. "You could've made me tap and won the round, why didn't you?"

"There's no fun in winning all the time," you lamented dramatically. Itachi narrowed his eyes, glaring at you playfully. You put your hands up in defense, ready to keep going. "If you want me to have fun, get better at taijutsu."

The boy lunged at you, hoping to catch you off guard, but you simply stepped to the side and tripped him.

"Get better, not faster."

Together, you sparred until the last drops of sunlight were leeched from the sky.

When you admitted that you were too tired to go on, Itachi thanked you in a huff and immediately sat down in the tall, green grass. It was odd, how quick he was to give up training for the day, but you sat with him nonetheless.

He wasn't tired, quite obviously. He was simply gazing upward, letting his dark eyes roam the equally inky sky above.

You looked at him curiously, studying his serene expression as he studied the sky. The breeze blew your hair in your face and left little, cold kisses along your bare legs, making goosebumps rise in their wake.

When Itachi laid back, you decided to ask him what he was doing, to which he replied softly;

"I can't help but think about how small and insignificant I am when I look at the stars."

You snickered a little, then said, "I don't think you're insignificant."

You lay beside Itachi, turning your head to watch a grin stretch across his lips. His thick black hair splayed around his head like a dark halo, as his hands folded together on his chest, rising and falling gently with each breath. Itachi turned his head to look at you, in turn. His deep, dark eyes captured yours, and you swore that you saw them glimmer in the faint moonlight.

"You think I'm small then?" He quipped.

"No," you laughed, shaking your head. Itachi looked at you, his features so round and tender. "I think you're big and important, Itachi. No matter what the stars say."

"They don't talk to me, I'm not insane." His fingers tapped his chest, drumming a small beat, "But they make me wonder. And wonder. And wonder."

"That must be why you're so wonderful."
