Kamimura Azuma watched the bustling streets from the window. It'd been a while since she came back to the city and rented a place for another short stay.
The apartment has a cheap price, the building resided in a district filled with suspicious alleyways. She'd seen some groups of gangs and demons disguised as humans wandering around. Nothing Azuma couldn't handle, just one among the places where her experience is most useful if needed. The night sky was raining, hardly her type of weather. She took a swig of the glass and bit on a herbal cigarette, drawing in the air for a bit and puffed out a light aroma, no bitter taste. Azuma used these habits to recover the fatigues on her body.
She had papers littered on the bed sheet. Files and reports involving an investigation that sees no progress in years. Those who looked into it before her all reached a dead end. Then, they were gone just like the victims.
People actually go missing out there. Though, they can't just vaporize into the air and leave nothing behind. It makes no sense.
Today marked exactly two week long into the investigation. Azuma wasn't able to find anything. She began to consider quitting this mission and look for something else, something that would be more straightforward to her and not beating around the bush like a difficult riddle.
Buzz Buzz!
Her phone rang.
"Tch. Again?" Azuma muttered as she read the message. "Another person went missing."
The latest victim of this cycle was a tolerable colleague from another Onmyouji clan.
Damn, what a bad time! Just when she was about to throw in the towel, the news had to pick the right time to add more weight on her conscience. Maybe it's about time she should try a different approach.
If the Spiritual Energy of the Onmyoujis couldn't resolve a decades-old problem, what about Soul Arts of the Taimanins?
"Guess I'll be coming home for a bit then."
Azuma tapped the list of contacts. Shortly, the name of an acquaintance showed up on the screen.
Igawa Asagi.
With a soft grin, Azuma pressed call.
