- After a year -

--------------------------

"Jade!" She flinched in her sleep at the yell of her name, dazed-she slowly woke up. "It's time for school!" The realization hit her slow. Her eyes steady, focusing on her surroundings.

Her purple curtains were drawn, shadowing her room into darkness. She barely managed to convince herself to move and turn the nightlight on. She squinted her eyes and adjusted to the faint light.

Her mind almost flashed back into her past when she heard a meow. Reminded of the first time she met this black cat that now sassy laid near her legs and seemed to grumble at the lack of attention. She never got used to this even after a year, the way her cat felt like a human with complex emotions, or maybe she truly went crazy, then again-the lack of friends would make one feel this way.

"Lash, good morning." She whispered and sat up. She stretched her arms up and extended it to pet Lash. He leaned into her touch, letting out a soft pur alike to his soft fur. She held back a squeal and pecked his head.

It was indeed nice to pet Lash as a way to start her day. She made it into a regular routine at any rate, it was so natural and despite it being merely a year. Her chest ached when she thought of the possibility of his death in the future.

Negative thoughts this early..? And I haven't even gotten to school..

She sighed and focused back when she felt something rough lick her. She looked back at Lash grooming her hand with his paw on her wrist, as if saying he wouldn't let go. The sight made her laugh, her chest left with a warm fussy feeling she liked.

She always cheered up cause of him, didn't she?

After twenty minutes of very sadly pulling her hand away from Lash, freshening up and changing. She stepped out of her room, letting Lash come along with her. She wore complete black with her gray shirt and the ripped jeans showing her skin only marking the difference. After all, she was never one for vibrant colors or showing off her skin, never, she was rather modest or just looked 'emo'.

Once she walked down the staircase with her elegant cat that gracefully stepped down besides her. Her gaze shifted to her aunt. Soon the essence of bread, butter and soup made her perk up. "Finally you sleeping beauty." She focused back and watched her aunt come toward her, giving her forehead a peck.

She smiled and thanked her aunt for cooking for her as she usually does.

She eyed the plate of bread smothered with butter, with a small bowl of tomato soup and an extra plate with plenty of crusty bread she could dip the soup in. Before that, she took the cat food and poured some for Lash, who quickly dug in.

With a smile, she walked back and sat down to eat the meal.

---------

After twenty-five minutes, she was at school. Her ears were plugged with a pair of headphones. She watched the students mouth move, and get closer to each other, she assumed they were gossiping. Jade was used to it, she didn't bet an eye. Convincing herself it was fine, since after all, she was in her final year. They'll always find something to talk about, don't they?

With a heavy breath straight in and out, she found herself in her classroom. Her gaze glumly focused on the scene outside of her teacher's classroom. She imagined herself dancing around on the ground, swamped in rain, with a luminous smile. As if it was fine, and she didn't despise it, but she did, as she stood halted in front of the pouring water.

The day finished, and instead of being able to return. She was stuck, it felt saddening. She wanted to cuddle with Lash, the thought of her cat worried and impatiently waiting for her return was adorable. Then again, Lash unusually gave her loving care and affection when it was rainy. As if he knew she'd be most troubled at those times.

Her eyes narrowed, reaching her hand into the air. Watched her hand hold a small puddle of water that kept dripping. Unable to contain it.

How ironic..

She unknowingly held a dark expression. Not responding, not until something poked her. She turned around to see an umbrella, only..

She flinched from the noises of the bushes rustling, she clenched her teeth and wondered what it was. She didn't understand the abruptness of umbrella. But as if she was already accustomed to this, she took the umbrella and walked out of the academy. Her empty gaze on the pavement, not caring about the people rushing in an attempt to avoid getting wet.

Nor how much she almost fell over.

A stalker.. That's the only logical answer to this...

It wasn't her first time receiving items she so conveniently needed at precisely the right timing. She lost track of how many times it had happened now, and there were always hints of someone trying to get away. She chased after many times, yet she never caught hold of this person.

It was after her parent's death it started to happen as well..

She let the umbrella dry out in front of the entrance door and stepped into the house. "I'm ho-" She stopped as Lash meowed loudly and come bolting towards her-

She would've awed but-

"Wahh! Your drenched Lushy!" She softly yelled and bent down to pet her cat. "Why are you wet- did you go out?" Her eyebrows knitted in worry when he seemed to be breathing rapidly.

Without caring about her outfit, Jade scooped up Lash and hugged him. "Let's get you dried.."

-------

She sat on the couch with Lush on a pillow. She scrolled through the list of movies while dressed in only an oversized black hoodie. It felt comfortable for her, and it did feel a bit chilly at the time.

Soon she was off-task, her head shifted to the front door. "Hm?" There was an envelope, something that wasn't there before. With curiosity, she walked closer to it along with Lash, who seemed intrigued as well.

She knelt down, caressing Lash with one hand while seeing if there was anything scribbled down on the cover. It was blank, however, and a bit wet due to the rain soaking the neighborhood. She shrugged and opened it, slowly her eyes broadened, and she sank down to the floor. Sat with her hands trembling.

'Your parents were killed.'
