Gemma LaRusso didn't feel like she belonged.
Ever since she could remember, Gemma felt like she was kind of just there. It didn't seem to matter where she went or what she was doing, Gemma felt like an outsider. She was the girl who was picked last in gym class, the girl who never got secret valentines bought for her at school.
What made the entire thing even worse was that her sister, Samantha, was friends with the popular girls. Gemma and Sam had always been close. They did everything together, but that all changed the moment Sam became friends with Yasmine and Moon. Sam tried her best to include her in things and invite her places, but Gemma just didn't fit in.
Gemma didn't feel seen. She never did. Gemma went through life being ignored by almost everyone she met. Sometimes, she felt like she was a side character in her own life, only existing to move the story along for those around her.
Gemma's love of music used to be the only thing that kept her going. When she felt like the world was too much or that everything was starting to get too loud, all she had to do was sit down at her piano and play. Gemma played the piano for hours on end until her fingers ached. But that was before playing the piano had turned into a chore, a form of entertainment for her parents' party guests.
It wasn't until a new kid, Miguel Diaz, moved to the Valley that Gemma finally started to feel like she was seen. He saw her as her own separate person. She wasn't just Samantha's sister or the girl who people asked "Who's that?" when her name was called during attendance.
Miguel saw Gemma for who she was, but he saw someone else more. Not only did Miguel see Gemma, but he saw Samantha too.

notes. this fic has been in my drafts for a while, but i was never able to find the right face claim for gemma so it just sat unpublished but when i watched the movies bottoms and bodies, bodies, bodies i knew that rachel sennott was the perfect gemma!!
always wanted to make a larusso oc and have her love interest be miguel. those fics are just always interesting to me for some reason and i don't know why.
