Dhara POV:
With my two best friends, Srishti and Purvi, standing right behind me, I knocked softly on my parents' bedroom door. I felt a mix of nerves and concern fluttering in my stomach. When the door creaked open, I saw Papa lying on the couch, his arm draped over his eyes, shielding his face from the world.
'Papa...' I said softly, my voice barely above a whisper. Slowly, he shifted his arm and opened his eyes, and I felt a rush of relief seeing the familiar warmth in his gaze.
I moved to sit beside him on the couch, and Srishti and Purvi settled on the edge of the bed. They've been my closest friends since forever, like two halves of my heart walking outside my body. We've shared everything, from giggles to tears, from midnight secrets to heartbreaks. Even when I was studying miles away in Edinburgh, they never failed to check in on me, their voices a lifeline in the loneliness of a foreign city.
As I sat there, the weight of worry lifting from my chest, I couldn't help but marvel at the bond we shared. They were more than friends; they were my confidantes, my pillars of strength. And as Papa's eyes met mine, filled with love and understanding, I knew that in that moment, everything would be okay.
'Aajao bacho...' Papa straightened up, his eyes lighting up as he reached into the chest of drawers, pulling out a box.
'Srishti, Purvi... beta, here, take these chocolates, your favourites.' His voice was filled with warmth and nostalgia. 'When Dhara told me you guys were coming, I asked Jai to bring them. I remember how you used to love them as kids.'
He handed a big box of chocolates to Srishti, her eyes shining with joy as she eagerly accepted it, placing it on the bed, just out of Purvi's reach.
'Share...' Papa playfully scolded, giving Srishti a cute glare. I couldn't help but chuckle at their interaction.
With a contented sigh, Papa turned to me, his eyes gentle and reassuring. 'Bol beta, kya hua? If it's about the evening, don't worry about it. Main dekh lun ga.' He affectionately ran his hand over my head, pulling me into his embrace. My head rested against his shoulder, his arm wrapping around me protectively. Across the room, Purvi gestured for me to speak up, nudging me to share why we were really here.
'Papa...' I called softly, my voice barely above a whisper.
'Bol bacche,' he encouraged, his gaze soft and understanding, waiting for me to speak.
'I am ready for this marriage,' I declared, feeling a mix of determination and nerves coursing through me. I could sense Papa's arm loosening around me, his eyes widening in surprise.
'Huh?' he exclaimed, caught off guard by my sudden announcement.
'Meri taraf se haan hai, Papa,' I said, gathering my courage before continuing. 'Dh-dhara...' I glanced over at Maa, who was standing at the door, her expression frozen, tears shimmering in her eyes.
