Present Day – Amelie's POV.
Saturday mornings were my favourite in the café. It was just me running the café, Noah was away at his soccer match, which meant that he wasn't around to help me, but I didn't mind. It was always busy, and I did get stressed during the rush, but I really enjoyed it as it took my mind off things.
All I had to do in that time was make people's coffee and hear about their day instead of thinking about what was going on at home. It also meant I could play my own music and do all the mundane tasks at my own pace without Noah breathing down my neck to hurry up.
After the rush, it gets quieter and slows down. I go about that time cleaning the counters and restocking the coffee pods while imagining new lyrics for new songs I wanted to write.
My mum, Lesley, didn't come to the café much after dad's passing. She says that it reminds her too much of him, the café was his pride and joy. When the café first opened it was just him and my mum, so she finds it hard now, knowing that he's gone, even two years later.
In a way I could understand and sympathise with her, but it did bother me at times when she expected her two children to run a business. She did handle the financial side of it thankfully, Noah and I were not trained in that area, so she did have a part in it, even if it was behind the scenes.
10am was always the busiest time on a Saturday morning, it was always the time the yummy mummies came out of their spin class or yoga, they would always come in in their group and talk about how well their session was, their children being amazing, blah blah blah, I didn't really care too much. I would make them their coffees and send them on their way. After that, it always quietened down for the afternoon.
The afternoon was my favourite time. It was usually when people my own age would come in to catch up with friends with a coffee. It was nice because they would come up to me and order their coffees and I could make small conversations with them, and they would vent to me about what's happening with their life sometimes. I got to know all the inside scoop of their lives. I enjoyed that; it was probably my favourite part of my days in here. I did grow quite friendly with the regular girls that came in every weekend.
"One Direction have extended their tour and are going state side this Summer for their 'Midnight Memories' tour. Tickets on sale next Friday, 19th of March at 9am. Support acts still yet to be announced."
I could hear the girls sitting to the left of the door start getting excited after hearing the radio announcement. They were the typical One Direction fans and would make it known to everyone around them how great they were. One Direction were never my choice in music, my dad liked to listen to them before he died when they were just starting up. I never really listened to them after he died, only the few songs that would come on the radio in work.
Zayn is one of my regulars, he started coming when One Direction grew more in popularity. He wanted a quieter café to come and relax in away from inner London whenever he was home. Zayn is a total sweetheart, him and Noah have become quite friendly too. They always chat when Noah's working and he likes to flaunt about how he is 'buddies' with Zayn to me, he is so annoying.
At around 5pm, I began closing for the night. I loved closing, it was usually when Zayn came in for his almond croissant and salted caramel hot chocolate. I always found his order hilarious considering his image, but it did reflect his character.
He usually would only come in just as I was closing so he would have some time for himself to relax without fan girls crowding him. He would just sit quietly with me and talk about his day while I was cleaning the floors. He's a good listener too, he knows that I write some music and has heard some of my songs. He helps me sometimes when I'm stuck or not sure where to go with a song.
He wasn't in today; he's finishing up his European leg of the tour with the band tonight in Berlin. So, it was just me, alone in the café, free to blast my music as loud as I please while I cleaned the shop. Taylor Swift being my choice of the evening, as always.
