I sprinted desperately, my legs ablaze with exhaustion, as if I had been running for an eternity. Each breath felt like fire in my lungs, but I dared not slow down. Suddenly, a glimmer caught my eye – a portal! Please, let this be my way out, I prayed silently, my heart pounding in my chest, my pursuers hot on my heels.
With all the strength I could muster, I dashed towards the portal, the eerie glow growing brighter with each step. Their sinister presence still loomed close behind me, their malicious intent palpable in the air.
I lunged through the portal, the sensation of being pulled through space and time overwhelming my senses. Collapsing backwards as it sealed shut behind me, I gasped for breath, my body trembling with fatigue and adorned with numerous wounds, the most prominent a deep gash on my forehead that throbbed with each heartbeat.
Now what? I found myself in an unknown location, surrounded by uncertainty. Tears welled in my eyes as despair washed over me, the gravity of my situation sinking in.
Summoning every ounce of strength left within me, I pushed myself upright, leaning against a nearby tree for support. Inhaling deeply, I steeled myself to continue forward, the determination to survive driving me onward despite the odds stacked against me.
As I ventured forth, my senses on high alert, I turned to find him standing there – General Ren. My heart raced with fear as he emerged from yet another portal, his presence ominous and foreboding, casting a shadow over the landscape.
"General Ren?" I whispered weakly, my voice trembling with dread as the portal sealed shut behind him, trapping me in his grasp once more.
"Violet... You dared to flee from me, the mightiest in the kingdom? You will rue the day, Violet!" General Ren's voice boomed, his scepter crashing against the ground with a deafening thud, sending tremors through the earth as his shadowy minions materialized around him, their glowing eyes fixated on me with malicious intent.
With terror gripping my heart, I fled, the shadow creatures hot on my trail, their unearthly howls echoing through the forest. Panting heavily, I pushed my body to its limits, every muscle screaming in protest as I pushed through the pain, driven by sheer survival instinct.
But fate had other plans, as a stray rock sent me tumbling to the forest floor, the impact jarring my senses and leaving me dazed and disoriented. My vision blurred, spots dancing before my eyes as I struggled to rise, only to collapse once more, my body succumbing to the darkness that threatened to consume me.
And so, darkness enveloped me as I slipped into unconsciousness, lying still amidst the shadows of the forest, my fate hanging in the balance as the echoes of General Ren's laughter filled the air, a chilling reminder of the perilous journey that lay ahead.
