And to think I interview all of my staff.
I hire all of my staff.
And I hired that.
It really did take a hit at my ego.
I roll my eyes at the thought as I pace silently and slowly down the dimly lit corridor of the bottom floor of my house, my footsteps muffled by the carpet underneath my house shoes.
I really did not feel like killing today.
I was in the middle of a good book, and then I remembered that I had the ugly prick in the cellar, ready to die.
Being head of New York's most powerful organised crime unit really was hard work.
I sigh internally.
The only amusement I had in this situation was fact that a certain nosy, rude, hot tempered woman was following me around my house, thinking she was being discreet.
Maybe she was, but my senses, finely attuned from years of training and survival in the vicious world of organised crime tingled with warning.
I could sense her curiosity as she silently shadowed my every move, her breath held in in anticipation.
Yet, I gave no outward sign of awareness.
I reach the cellar entrance, my hand hovering over the doorknob. In that moment, I turn around abruptly, my gaze piercing through the darkness to meet Milayah's startled eyes.
She freezes, caught red handed in her attempt to follow me in my business.
"What are you doing here?" I keep my voice low, trying to hide the amusement I feel and mask it with frustration.
Caught off guard but refusing to waver, she straightens her spine, lifting her chin in defiance. "I... I heard noises and wanted to see what they were."
I stare at her, my mind calculating her intentions.
In the silence, her unbothered front falters, revealing pure curiosity in her eyes. "Fine... I just wanted to see what you're doing. Plus you owe me an answer." She mumbles, staring back at me.
I roll my eyes.
I knew she was not to be underestimated, and I knew she was not stupid, which is why an idea crosses through my mind.
"Are you sure you want to see what I'm doing?" I taunt, leaning against the door behind me.
She nods, determination sparking in her eyes.
"You won't like it." I find myself wondering why I'm not just throwing her into the cellar along with that toad and killing them both.
Because I need her for my publicity.
