Mama's making hot chocolate for Zeke, I said I wanted some, but she said it was only for Zeke which is stupid. I think I should be able to have some hot chocolate too. I cross my arms sitting on the couch next to Zeke looking at mama annoyed. "Don't look at me like that you've already had hot chocolate today." Mama says and I sigh a bit and uncross my arms. "The sleep did you good. Your color looks better. You want some hot chocolate? Zeke." Mama says looking at Zeke because he isn't answering. "Am I dead?" Zeke asks mama and dang that is a big question. "No, but...that would be easier to explain." Mama says to Zeke as he starts to sit up, "A person can't freeze to death in a cave and then a year later walk out alive. Not on planet earth. This is earth, right?" I giggle at that question a bit, that's a funny question. Where else would we be? "Yes, it is. And you did." Mama says to Zeke, "how?" Zeke asks mama, "we're still trying to figure that out. Look, why don't you walk me through everything that you remember? You said you were hiking, right?" Mama asks Zeke handing him the hot chocolate, why couldn't she given him the coffee and I got the hot chocolate. "And then this just monster blizzard hit, came out of nowhere." Zeke says taking the hot chocolate from mama. "So then you took shelter in the cave?"

"I was packed in. I mean, I didn't have the tools or the strength to break through the snow and ice. I tried." Zeke says to mama, "that's where you got the cuts, from trying to dig yourself out?" Mama asks Zeke, "mm, didn't work." He says showing mama his bandaged hand. "Can I change those? So, then you remember two weeks passing." mama says getting out the supplies and Zeke starts taking off his bandage and the door opens. "Thought that was it for me." Zeke says to mama, "how'd you get out of the cave?" Mama asks getting the supplies to put another bandage on his hand. "Earthquake or avalanche or something. Whole mountain shook, and the ice broke away enough for me to crawl out and make my way to the first place I found. And to the dead girls I kept telling myself to find." Zeke says looking down at the floor confused, "except we're not dead, and at least I heard you. Violet doesn't talk about her callings a lot but we're pretty sure they're the same as mine and somehow like Cal."

"And my list of questions grows." Zeke says looking at mama, "we can talk about all that on the ride back to the city. Grace and Cal are loaded in. Let's hit it." Uncle Ben says getting the backpack and going towards the door. "I-I think I'm actually gonna stay up here for a while. This place has great cocoa." Mama looks over at Uncle Ben confused, "we're taking Cal straight to the hospital. We know someone there that can have a look at you as well." Uncle Ben says, "I'm fine, really. I just need some time to process everything before I go back to civilization." Zeke says looking at Uncle Ben, "Zeke, you need to come. We don't know if that's infected--"

"Sorry. I'm not going. Not yet." Zeke says leaning back on the couch, "we'll stay with him." Mama says looking over at Uncle Ben, "what? Excuse us." Uncle Ben says and mama and him walk to the other side of the cabin and pull the blanket so that it is blocking our view of them. I can hear them talking. "They fight all the time. It's like they're married or something." I say to Zeke with a smile on my face and he chuckles a little bit. I sit on the couch humming to myself until mama and Uncle Ben walk out from behind the curtain and Uncle Ben walks out of the cabin. "Why don't I make us some lunch? Yeah?" Mama says kissing the top of my head, I smile up at her and she goes and makes some soup for all of us. I hum to myself and I swing my legs back and forth. "Vi food is ready." Mama says and I go and sit down at the table starting to eat what is in front of me. "So, if years went by and we didn't feel it, where were we? In some kind of suspended animation?" Zeke asks mama, we don't even know that yet, we know not a lot. "Uh, we are still waiting for the official handbook to come out on that." Mama says and Zeke laughs, "but there are theories, right?"
