Library? It wasn’t just a library. It was an immense, magnificent space that could easily accommodate our entire neighborhood and then some. The place was so vast and wondrous, no one could have even imagined something like this existing.
I looked around, my mouth agape, unable to believe what I was seeing. The man led us to a cozy area and gestured for us to sit on a plush, oversized sofa. Shreya squeezed my hand, her eyes wide with confusion, as we took our seats. Neither of us could say anything—who were these people? Where were we?
The two men, both exuding an air of authority, sat down directly across from us. The one who had been glaring at me so intensely that it felt like he could snatch my soul with his eyes finally spoke.
"Let's start with something simple," the man named Rag said in a voice that was both commanding and oddly reassuring. "What are your names?"
"I'm Shreya Mehra," Shreya answered quickly, her voice trembling slightly.
"And I'm Ruhpreet, but everyone calls me Ruhi," I added, trying to steady my own voice.
The two men exchanged a glance, something unspoken passing between them. Then Rag turned back to us, a small, incredulous smile playing on his lips.
"Those are... interesting names. But you've heard of me, right? Surely you know who I am."
I swallowed hard, and Shreya and I shook our heads in unison. His eyes widened in surprise, and he leaned forward, his expression a mix of disbelief and irritation.
"You mean to tell me you don’t know my name? You don’t know the name of your future democracy? The name of Rag Sun?"
"Rag Sun? Democracy?" Shreya and I exchanged bewildered looks. It was all too much. Shreya suddenly burst out laughing, the absurdity of the situation getting the best of her.
"Democracy? Are you serious?" Shreya giggled, clearly thinking this was some elaborate prank. "If your name is Sun, then mine must be Saturn! Please, enough with the jokes."
