Milo Is One

Beth and Viv prepare Milo's first birthday at home with his family!

The week had been busy, Beth and Viv had been busy at training and playing matches and though they were tired they'd both wanted to give Milo the best first birthday he could have. 

"Did you get the cake?" Beth asked Viv as she sorted their son's banners and they both blew up a few balloons to decorate the lounge with.

"Yes it's in the kitchen, I even got him a little candle with a number one." Viv grins.

"Oh Vivi! That's so cute, his first little birthday cake and little candle... I hope he doesn't try to eat the candle." Beth giggles.

Neither of them could believe how quickly the time had come around for their son's first birthday. It seemed like it was only yesterday when Beth had given birth to him. A day that had been filled with so much drama and upset and yet here was their little boy bringing so much joy and happiness to their lives.

"I'm here! What needs doing for Auntie's favourite boy?" Katie called as she walked in with a cake.

"Katie, you're here?!" Viv calls out in shock at her early arrival

"Of course I am. It's Milo's birthday, this is a house with 2 under 2 right?" Katie asked knowingly.

"Well yeah? And your point?" Viv looks confused

"Stress Viv, pure stress. Here I am miss stress reliever. Tell me what needs doing and I'll help. Oh by the way I brought cake." Katie grins proud of herself.

Beth laughs, she's never seen Katie so infested in their children's lives. She really was taking her Auntie role seriously.

"Oh Katie you're a gem, we do already have a cake, though I suppose... if you don't mind, could we perhaps use it for-." Beth stops herself mid sentence, Viv and Katie turn to look at her questioningly.

"For what Beth?" Viv asks gently. "Yeah go on... you can't start and not finish." Katie adds.

Beth thinks for a moment and bites her lip. "What if he had it as a cake smash..." she says after a moment.

Beth had thought about this for a while though hadn't had the time to book one with someone who provided the opportunity. But now come to think of it was unsure about what she had suggested, how much mess could Milo make? She was conflicted because after all he was only turning one years old once in his life... it was on opportunity that seemed to have come at the right moment, with extra cake to be had.

"Ahh yes!!" Katie agreed enthusiastically. "That would be so amazing." She continued

"Beth... the mess? Are you sure about this?" Viv asked gently, she knew how much Beth wanted it but with 2 under two in the house did they really want to be cleaning up extra mess?

"I guess... I mean it'll be messy but if we do it with big bags stretched out how hard can it be to clean?" Beth says with some thought.

Viv nods giving in, she wanted the memories as much as Beth did. So what if it caused extra mess, there'd be enough adult bodies around to help clean. "Let's do it mijn meisje." She grinned

"For real?" Beth grins just as wide, her excitement totally taking over. "For real." Viv replied back with a gentle kiss.

"Awww my favourite couple." Katie grins as she watched the pair kiss.

A few hours later the balloons and banners were dotted round the lounge, a few little presents were wrapped and Mila had just come down to join Beth, Viv and Katie.

"Morning... how long have you been awake?" Mila asked Viv and Beth.

"We've been up since 5, and this one joined us shortly after 6." Beth smiles pointing to Katie, who was sat with a grin on her face.

"Morning little one." Katie said cheerfully.

"I'm not the baby anymore... remember." Mila rolled her eyes with a laugh.

"You'll always be mine, I'm sorry to ye Mums and all but you gave me the first taste of motherhood..." Katie reminds

"Today isn't about me Katie, it's about Milo. But either way I'm glad to have helped that be one time." Mila smiles at the memory.

"Mammm mammm. Ma ma ma ma." Could be heard over the baby monitor a short while later.

"The little man himself is awake. Are you going or me?" Beth asked Viv.

"I'll go. I want first snuggles with the birthday boy." Viv grins and giddily skipped out the room to get Milo.

Some hours later Milo, his mummy's, big sister Mila and Auntie Katie had eaten breakfast. Milo had been particularly smiley and continued to be so when both Aunts and Uncles came along with Viv's parents and Beth's dad.

"Cake smash time." Beth declared after Milo had opened up his presents, she was wary that the young boy would soon be wanting a nap.

Milo had the time of his life with the cake smash, he loved every minute and the laughs and encouragement from his family only made him even more excited. Milo squeals happily and eats some of the cake, deciding that he liked the taste of the bit off his finger, he goes for a handful.

"That's my boy." Katie grins

"Oh Milo. Mammy's little love." Beth coos over his cuteness.

He noticed Mila sat close with baby Bethany and crawls over some cake still in his hand. "Ahh." He says trying to give the cake to Bethany.

"No, no Milo. Too little." Viv panics though Mila stays calm.

"Baba too little. MiMi some?" Mila requested and though not entirely happy he couldn't share his cake with Bethany, he feeds it to Mila. "Yum yum." She says swallowing the piece he gave her.

Milo rested his head next to Bethany's and rubbed his dirty caked up hands on his eyes. It was only when his light sores were heard that everyone realised that Milo had fallen asleep cuddled with his sissy and his baby niece.

"He's cake smashed out." Beth chucked and picked him up in her arms placing a kiss on his head.

During the little boys nap, he was passed round the family, being a heavy sleeper he slept through all the cuddles.

Milo's birthday tea continued when he woke up from his slumber. He really was the most happy baby, the smile never left his face the whole time... well except for when his whole family sang happy birthday to him... he didn't much like that.

He much preferred to be cuddled up in his Ma's arms, Viv's calmness seemed to calm the little boy down instantly.

"Happy birthday Milo Richard." Beth whispered as she kissed his head while he cuddled into Viv.
