"We cannot just stand by and let this happen, Milkstar." Finchspot's angered voice sounded from across the clearing.
Whistlepaw lifted her head up from where she sat across camp. Snakepaw looked up as well, her gaze filled with worry "Finchspot, this is not your decision. We are in no shape to go up against SharpClan."
"We can handle them! Nearly everyone on that last patrol is healed! We need to make them pay!" Finchspot snarled, lashing his hairless tail. Milkstar glared at Finchspot, her ears flattening against her head.
"Enough, Finchspot. I told you we are not fit to fight SharpClan. They easily outnumber us!" Milkstar growled, fury raging in her ocean blue eyes. Foxwatcher picked up on the action and raced over to help Milkstar.
It had been 4 days since Whistlepaw had visited her sister, Onepaw, in the medicine den. Things were getting much worse in the camp. SharpClan was stealing their prey and certain parts of their territory.
SeaClan was in no shape to fight them, and Finchspot knew that. Hopstar had come to camp just the other day to speak with Milkstar. From what Whistlepaw had heard from the other warriors was serious and threatening.
Whistlepaw and the others, except Onepaw, hadn't even been into a real battle before. I'm not even sure if I am ready to go into battle. Whistlepaw thought. As the arguing continued, Whistlepaw picked up on Snakepaw's feelings.
Fear and worry was spiking off her pelt like a hunted mouse. Whistlepaw glanced down at Snakepaw "It'll be okay, Snakepaw, I'm sure Milkstar will figure something out." Whistlepaw tried to reassure her.
"But what if we do fight SharpClan? What if one of us gets hurt?" Snakepaw questioned, worry gleaming in her eyes "That's what battle is, Snakepaw, we're bound to get hurt, but that doesn't mean we'll die."
"But what if somebody does die? What will we do then?" Snakepaw asked, her fur slowly rising with panic "Then they'll be in StarClan, where they can watch over us." Whistlepaw meowed, not even sure if that was remotely helping.
"But I don't want to die, Whistlepaw! I'm hardly even a warrior!" Snakepaw exclaimed, tears whelming up in her eyes "What? Who said anything about you dying?" Whistlepaw asked, staring down at Snakepaw with concern.
Snakepaw wasn't usually this panicky about this topic. She was so excited to be able to finally get into border scrimmages, but now she seemed anxious and terrified. Whistlepaw curled her tail around Snakepaw, trying to comfort her.
Snakepaw leaned against Whistlepaw's shoulder, trying to calm her breathing. Whistlepaw looked up from Snakepaw, noticing that the argument had faded. Snakepaw snuggled deeper into Whistlepaw's shoulder fur.
Whistlepaw licked the top of Snakepaw's head, relieved that Snakepaw had finally calmed down. Sweettail poked his head out of the warriors' den, looking around camp. He turned to Whistlepaw and Snakepaw, slowly padding over to them.
"What did I miss? I heard some arguing out here," Sweettail meowed, his gaze somewhat worried "Finchspot and Milkstar were arguing about SharpClan." Whistlepaw informed him. Sweettail sighed, shaking his head.
"When will he learn that we can't take them on?" He muttered to himself. Whistlepaw wondered if Sweettail was scared to face SharpClan. He was once SharpClan's medicine cat, but he left after feeling unhappy and mistreated there.
He said that most of his Clanmates were horrible and treated him like mouse dung. Even his own mother used to scold him and call him names. Whistlepaw was glad that he left SharpClan. He's become a great help for this Clan.
"Well, I better go and see if any patrols are needed. I'll see you two around," he meowed, interrupting Whistlepaw's thoughts "Oh, okay, see ya." She responded quickly, waving her tail goodbye.
Snakepaw blinked up at her "What should we do now?" She asked, her fear already gone from her eyes "Well, we could go hunting, just so we can stock up the prey pile a bit." Whistlepaw suggested, flicking her ears.
"Sure, want me to go grab Blackpaw too?" Snakepaw asked, getting to her paws "If he wants to come with us." Whistlepaw mewed, stretching herself out. Snakepaw padded away to the apprentices' den, leaving Whistlepaw to herself.
She got up and trotted away to find Foxwatcher or Milkstar. She wanted to tell them before just randomly leaving. Foxwatcher was chatting with Icefern near the meeting rock. Milkstar was probably curled away in her nest.
"Excuse me, Foxwatcher?" Whistlepaw asked politely. Both warriors turned to her "Yes Whistlepaw?" Foxwatcher asked, tilting his head "Me and the others are going to go hunting, is that okay?"
"Oh, sure! It'd be nice if we could get the fresh-kill pile stocked back up," Foxwatcher purred "But please be careful, young one. Don't forget that SharpClan is still around." Icefern warned her, his eyes rounded.
"We will!" Whistlepaw chirped, trotting away. Snakepaw sat outside the den with Onepaw and Blackpaw. And Frogpaw was surprisingly there as well "Are we all ready to go?" Whistlepaw asked "Definitely! Let's go!"
Snakepaw raced away, Blackpaw trotting after here. Whistlepaw and Onepaw closely followed them while Frogpaw took the rear. They entered their territory, the scent of the palm trees soothing and welcoming.
Snakepaw proudly took the lead of the group with Blackpaw close at her side. The other three apprentices padded behind them, Whistlepaw and Onepaw chatting with each other. Frogpaw didn't as so much say a word to anybody the whole way.
Finally, they reached the beach, a common place for finding a good hunting spot "Where do we all want to go?" Whistlepaw asked them, pausing next to Onepaw "I was thinking we should go hunt in the pools or maybe the dunes."
"Hm, I agree with Blackpaw, I'd like to hunt somewhere around there," Onepaw meowed, giving her chest fur a gentle lick "I want to go there too! I found some really cool animals in the pools the last time!" Snakepaw squeaked.
"What about you Frogpaw?" Whistlepaw asked, turning to the hairless apprentice, but she wasn't there "Frogpaw?" Whistlepaw asked, looking around. She spotted the hairless she-cat further along the beach, her ears perked.
"Frogpaw! What are you doing over there?" Snakepaw exclaimed but was quickly shushed by her. Her ears were swerving around as if she were listening to something. Finally, she turned to them, her eyes wide.
"Do you guys hear fighting?"
