patrick and brendon stood there in shock. anna was talking to them. they couldn't even believe that this was real.

anna smiled at them, tears still in her eyes. "i kind of expected you two to have tears in your eyes as well, but i guess this works, too," she chuckled.

patrick threw his arms around her. "it's so great to hear your voice again, annabelle."

"this is better than i expected," brendon said to himself, amazed by the turn of events. now patrick really had a chance.

luckily for brendon, and for patrick as well, anna didn't hear that. she was too busy crying tears of joy.

patrick put his hands to her face and wiped the tears away. he even made little window wiper noises, which anna thought was adorable.

"there. beautiful as ever," patrick blurted out, and then he covered his mouth.

she laughed. "that was a very smooth move, patrick."

his face was now a deep scarlet color, and it was only growing more red.

"very smooth, indeed," brendon agreed.

i'm screwing up with her so bad, holy smokes, patrick thought. think, stump. you need to make a move, as soon as possible, and without brendon there to judge your every move.

"annabelle?"

"yes?" she asked.

"do you wanna go get some lunch with me?" patrick suggested.

"oh, i'd love to!" she exclaimed. "brendon should come along and-"

"no!" he interrupted. "brendon has, uh...grocery shopping to do."

brendon's eyebrows rose. "i do?"

"yes, you do," he replied with gritted teeth, as he pinched brendon's arm.

"ow! i mean, yeah, of course i have grocery shopping to do!" brendon exclaimed. "i ran out of...milk. yeah, i ran out of milk."

"didn't you just buy milk yesterday?" anna asked. "patrick texted me and said that he went to the supermarket with you, brendon."

"well, you know me. i'm brendon urie, the milk prince. if i don't have enough milk, i freak out like a toddler, you know?"

what patrick wanted to say was, "you're the worst liar in the entire world, brendon," but he didn't.

instead, he said, "well, then why don't you go buy some, little milk prince?"

"okay. the milk prince shall be leaving now. it was wonderful seeing you, anna. have fun on your little date with little stumpy."

"it's not a date!" patrick insisted.

"we'll see about that," brendon smirked, walking out the door.

he remembered to close it, for he didn't want patrick to make a reference to the timeless panic! classic.

-

"well, that was the strangest side of brendon urie that i've ever seen," anna said, clueless about the entire plan.

"yeah, that was," patrick said. "how about we go get lunch?"

"sounds like a plan to me," she agreed.

-

after telling anna's mother that they were leaving, patrick and anna walked outside and got into patrick's car.

"oh, thank god. your car actually smells nice," she said, inhaling the scent of peppermint that was floating around patrick's car.

"you know, i don't think i'm used to hearing you talk quite yet," patrick said, smiling at her.
