ANI'S POINT OF VIEW

"Shit. Ariana is going to kill me."

As I weaved in and out of traffic, I prayed that God allowed me to make it to my job safely. The last thing I needed was a ticket or an accident to have me later than what I already am. I'm thirty minutes late, and I can only imagine the flack I'm going to get.

"Girl, Demi loves your ass," Niesha's voice flowed loudly through my car speakers. "There's no way she will be mad at her precious ANI. I'm telling you, friend, that girl wants to slurp your coochie like an Icee."

Waving her off as if she could see me, I couldn't help but think about the last three months of my life and how they have changed. I admit when Ari approached me about working at the cigar bar, I was hesitant. People think I'm always cracking jokes about trafficking, but I'm serious as hell. That is why I am skeptical about meeting and interacting with new people on a personal level.

"Whatever, Niesha. That girl isn't stun' me and I for sure ain't stun' her. I just want to get this money before the fall." Spring classes are over and done with. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford summer classes. My financial aid didn't come through, and being as though I have my own place now, I couldn't afford it.

"Anyway, I may come through later if I don't make plans. Your job is a whole vibe, friend. Maybe we can both find a sponsor for the fall so we can knock the last year out."

"Now, Niesha, you know I—"

"Yeah yeah, whatever, bitch. I know you ain't looking for one. Hell, put that pussy on ARI and let her do it." She barely got that out for laughing so hard. Instead of responding, I disconnected the call. I was pulling up at work anyway. I blew out the breath I didn't know I was holding. Thankfully, the place wasn't too packed.

Exiting the car, I made sure my shorts were in place, and my pasties were intact under my jacket. Initially, I didn't think I would be able to work with just shorts, fishnets, and pasties, but I make do. Plus, all the customers are respectful and they tip good as hell.

Walking into the lounge, many regulars I have grown fond of greeted me by name. It's mainly older gentlemen that visit here, and I honestly prefer it that way. They flirt, but they're more respectful than the guys my age. The attention that they give me isn't as overwhelming either.

Turning on her heels, she walked out of the locker room and left me wondering what in the hell that was about. I don't make it a habit of being late. Surely ARI isn't firing me. Right? Deciding to get it over with, I left the room and made my way up the small number of stairs that led to ARI'S office. Before I could knock, the door swung open, and the most handsome man I have ever seen was leaving out. It seemed as if time stood still as we stood there and took each other in.
