BROOKLYN

"Brooklyn, do you think you can work a few more hours? We just had someone quit, on top of us already being understaffed," my manager requested.

"Yes, ma'am, it won't be a problem at all. What all do you need me to do?" I quizzed. I was irritated as fuck, but I had a reputation for having an amazing work ethic, so I played that shit cool.

"Just check in on the patients in the third wing. Mr. Tommy needs his medication, and Ms. Josephine needs to be bathed. Whatever else you see that may need to be done, you can do as well," she responded.

"Okay, let me finish up in here, and I'll head over to the third wing as soon as I'm done," I agreed.

"Thanks again, Brooklyn. I don't know what I'd do without you. Because these other folks do not want to work," she complained.

"You can start by giving me a raise or something because I damn sure deserve one," I half joked.

"You're definitely right about that. I'll see what I can do."

"You've been saying that for months, but my paychecks don't reflect that state-ment," I expressed.

"I'll take care of it, Brooklyn. Now let's get back to work."

Time passed quickly, and before I knew it, I was on my final rounds and writing my reports for the next shift.

I had every intention of calling my boyfriend, Tru, to let him know that I would be working late.

I'd gotten busy just that quick, trying to finish the rest of my shift and then take on the responsibilities of someone else.

I hated every one of the bitches I worked with because they were all full of shit. Their priorities were never in order, and every day seemed to come with a new excuse.

I wasn't knocking the fact that their fuck ups gave me a chance to get a bigger bag, but I felt like if I could come to work every day and bust my ass, they could do the same.

Especially the ones who'd been working there longer than me. Most couldn't stand me because I went above and beyond.

I took what I did to heart, and management basically praised me. I could get anything I wanted from them except that damn raise I'd practically been begging for.
