Percy burst out of an alley onto East 81st, and ran straight into Annabeth, Sarah, and I.

YN: Hey, you're out early!

I grabbed his arm to keep him from tumbling into the street.

Annabeth: Watch where you're going, Seaweed Brain.

Sarah was holding my hand, and Annabeth was grinning at Percy.  Sarah and Annabeth were both wearing jeans and their orange camp t-shirts.  Sarah was also wearing the red leather jacket I'd gotten her.  I was wearing my black hoodie with a cartoon grim reaper on the front, with holes cut out for my wings.  Don't ask how I put clothes on over them, it's a long and frustrating process.  We all looked like regular high school kids, going out for a movie.  Then Rachel Elizabeth Dare, still covered in monster dust, came charging out of the alley.

Rachel: Percy, wait up!

Our smiles melted.  We stared at Rachel, then at the school.  It was at this point that I noticed the black smoke and ringing fire alarms.

YN: Percy, what did you do.

Percy: YN, not now.

I sighed.

Percy: Rachel?  Annabeth, Sarah, and YN.  Annabeth, Sarah, and YN?  Rachel.  Um, she's a friend, I guess.

I wasn't sure what was worse.  The fire, or the fact that Annabeth looked ready to murder her.

Rachel: Oh, um... hi.  Percy, you are in so much trouble.  And you still owe me an explanation!

Police sirens wailed on FDR Drive.

Annabeth: Percy.  We should go.

Annabeth was giving him a death glare.  I leaned over to Sarah.

YN: Women are scary.

Sarah: Yeah, we are.

Rachel: I want to know more about half-bloods.  And monsters.  And this stuff about the gods.

She grabbed Percy's arm, whipped out a permanent marker, and wrote a phone number on his hand.

Rachel: You're going to call me and explain, okay?  You owe me that.  Now get going.

Percy: But-

Rachel: I'll make up some story.  I'll tell them it wasn't your fault.  Just go!

She ran back toward the school, leaving Sarah, Annabeth, Percy, and I in the street.  We all started walking away.

Percy: There were these two Empousai.  They were cheerleaders, see, and they said camp was going to burn, and-

Sarah: You told a mortal girl about half-bloods!

Percy: She can see through the Mist!  She saw the monsters before I did.

Annabeth: So you told her the truth?

Percy: She recognized me from Hoover Dam, so-

Annabeth: You've met her before?

YN: If by met, you mean swung a sword through her neck, then yeah.  They've met.

Sarah: He did WHAT?

Percy: Um, last winter.  But seriously, I barely know her.

We kept walking toward York Avenue.

Percy: I'll deal with the school.  Honest, it'll be fine.

I sighed, turning to Sarah

YN: Sorry Sar, I guess our date is off.
