"I made breakfast, babe! Come eat!" Rhea yelled from downstairs.
It's the morning after we arrived home from RAW. With the heavy conversation looming over my head that we've yet to have, it's difficult to get out of bed right now. I've been awake for about an hour just scrolling through my phone and biding my time. I wrack my brain for other things that I can do to procrastinate and I decide on a shower. The hot water will definitely help me release the tension from my muscles that has persisted for nearly three days now.
I silently get up from the bed and head to our bathroom with my phone in hand. Maybe music will help calm my brain down too. I pause at the bathroom sink and select a playlist. I smile when Alkaline by Sleep Token begins to play. Music has always been my safe space. I should get back into it again.
I turn the faucet in the shower and undress while I wait for it to heat up. My foot is halfway into the shower before I realize that the bandage on my wrist can't get wet.
Oh, well. I'll just rewrap it later. I'm sure it could use a breather anyway. I dispose of the bandage in the trash and get into the shower. The hot water stings my wrist a little, but it doesn't last and I barely notice it over the relaxing feeling of the hot water everywhere else. Yeah, this is what I needed for sure. I let the water run over my face and hair, just standing under the spray and letting it wash the tension from me.
"Emma?" I heard Rhea's voice question from the bedroom. "Emma, what are you doing?"
It took all of five seconds before she was in the bathroom, answering her question.
"Just showering," I supply, side eyeing her slightly. I know why she's really in here.
"You okay?" She asked.
"I'm fine, Rhea. I'm just showering."
"Yeah, I know I just..."
"You want to make sure I'm not cutting up my wrist some more?" I look her square in the face as I grab my loofa and body wash, squirting a dollop onto it.
She's silent as she gives me a look. A look that says that I should watch my attitude.
"I'll be out of the shower in five minutes, Rhea. Just give me a minute," I say a bit gentler than before.
"Alright. I'll wrap up your wrist again when you're out," she says hesitantly as she exits the bathroom. I sigh as I watch her walk away. She's just trying to help.
I'm out of the bathroom in ten minutes, surprised that Rhea didn't come barreling in here after the initial five minutes was up. Everything made more sense when I walked back into the bedroom and she was sitting expectantly on the bed with her arms crossed loosely across her chest.
"What? I said I'd be out of the shower in five minutes, not the bathroom," I said with a wink.
"Don't do that," she huffed with a smile.
"I'm not doing anything!" I exclaimed.
"Yeah, you're being a smartass," she laughed as she stood up from the bed. "Come on."
I followed her into the bathroom and let her bandage my wrist again with the supplies we had under the sink. I don't remember having those kinds of supplies under the sink.
I sat atop the sink as I held out my arm for her to work on.
"I got some stuff yesterday when we went grocery shopping," she provided as she concentrated on applying ointment.
"Sneaky move, Ripley."
She grinned up at me for a moment but there was no humor in it. Try as I might to lighten the mood, it was only delaying the inevitable.
