Chapter Seven.
Friends. Chase Atlantic.

Elsie woke up that morning with a such raging headache that she thought maybe she had hit her head last night without remembering. Her brows pinched together as she rubbed her temples with her fingertips. She remembered Yarah making her soup for dinner, and then leaving once she had eaten all of it, but nothing much before, or after that.

She scooped up her phone off her bedside table, which she had forgotten to charge, and read the time, ten-oh-eight. She also noticed how many text messages and a voicemail from Carolynn she had gotten while in a drunk coma. There were a few from Finn asking if she was alright, some from Carolynn, and a few from her boss. Fuck, her boss! She forgot she had the morning shift today!

Quickly, she pushed aside her covers and rushed out of bed to the bathroom. She brushed her teeth and put on light makeup since she didn't have much time to do it the way she normally did, and threw on her uniform.

She drove to the Java Bean in silence, scared that Shawn would chew her out as soon as she got inside. She wasn't exactly sure how she was gonna break the news that she was putting in her two weeks. In the voicemail Carolynn had left while Elsie was out like a light, she had explained that she would no longer need to work her "minimum wage job", and to quit immediately. That meant in the next three days, so Elsie thought she'd bite the bullet and just quit today.

She sped walked into the cafe, spotting Yarah already behind the counter. Only a few of the regulars were there since they had just opened, and Shawn was in his office, looking at something intensely on his laptop.

"You were on an influencer shade room this morning," Yarah said as her friend made her way around the counter and put on the visor that read 'Java Bean', the name of the cafe. "Not a lot of people were happy that Finn was all flirty with another girl. You know how his fans are."

"What were they saying?" Elsie asked, hopping behind the counter to the cashier, and looking back at her friend who was making a latte. "Actually, don't tell me. I don't want my feelings to be hurt this early in the morning."

"Morning girls." Shawn came out of his office and grabbed himself a cheese danish and the latte that Yarah had just finished, making sure to thank her.

"Need help there?" Elsie asked the man, him struggling to pluck a napkin out of the napkin dispenser.

"Much obliged." He said, watching as his employee grabbed a napkin for him, handing it to him.

Elsie's face scrunched up in anticipation as she watched her boss begin to walk back to his office. "Shawn, I actually have to talk to you about something…"

"Can it wait?" He asked from inside the small room, placing all of the food items down.

"Uhh, I don't think so." She replied, stepping through the doorframe and letting the door shut halfway behind her. "I'd like to put in my two weeks."

Shawn paused all of his movements, then looked up at the girl. "What?"

"I'm sorry, but I got a really good opportunity that quite literally came out of the blue. I took it, and it was required that I quit my current job." She explained, the man listening intently to her words. "I would've written up a letter of resignation, but I didn't have much time. I'm sorry."

Shawn said nothing as he sat down in his chair, running his hands down his face. "Yeah, that's alright." He huffed out. "Thank you for letting me know, I'll start looking for your replacement soon."

"Thank you, Shawn." She sighed, grateful that he wasn't being an asshole about her quitting. He was normally just an asshole in general, so his being so gracious about this was a pleasant surprise.
