Chapter 8-This has to be a joke

Jasmine POV

Emma was right about her mother making a big dinner for her stepdad. When we walked in she had just finished up setting the table. She greeted us both before walking away to get her husband.

I watched as Emma looked at her mother unbothered. I guess she got used to the fake facade she put on around guests.

Seconds later Emma gestured me to follow her to her room. She didn't say a word only walked in silenced.
I knew that it bothered her but she never really talked about it much.

We dropped our bags before heading back down for dinner. We both took our seats and were greeted by them both.

" Oh, Jasmine it's been a while, how is your mother ?" She asks sweetly.

" She's good, working like always " I reply politely.

" Good, I'm glad to hear it " she replies before turning to her husband.

She whispered something in his ear before starting to eat her food.

I glanced at Emma to see her looking uncomfortable. I felt bad for her. I guess she felt my eyes because she glanced at me as well.

I gave her a smile before looking at my plate. My mouth watered at the sight.
I couldn't lie and say the food didn't look amazing.
I took my first bite which made my eyes go big. This chicken is amazing.

" Emma dear how was class ? " asked Mom.

I watched as she looked up at her mom with annoyance.

" It was great, exactly I met someone. He asked me out on a date. He was tall with blue eyes and blonde hair. He's quite cute I think I'll invite him over some time" she says before taking a bite of her food.

Did the room just get cold?

" Oh uh that's great honey, but remember to take it slow " She replied taken back slightly.

" Of course," she says flatly before looking at him directly in the eye.

I glanced over to see him with the most forced face ever. He was quite handsome however he wasn't my type. I held in my giggle and went back to eating.

She was going to pay for that later but I'm sure she didn't care.

After dinner, we headed up to her room. I took a shower first and was currently waiting for her to finish hers. I guess I never realized how alike we were until now.

Emma never judged me about my uncle because she was just like me. However, the man she was in love with was her stepdad. When they first met they clicked instantly.

He was ten years older than her and ten years younger than her mother. It's only been about two years since they have been married and to call their marriage a hoax is one thing. Emma never respected her mother. It was after she caught her in bed with two men while her stepdad was on a business trip.

When he got back she told him what she saw but he brushed her. He proceeded to say he knew the kind of woman she was when he married her.

That in itself broke her heart. So as time went on they got closer and closer.

I don't know all the details but I'm sure we will soon. 🫣

" Ugh, he is such an idiot " I hear her grunt in the bathroom.

" Who is exactly? " I shout acting clueless.

" Jasmine, I'm not in the mood for your foolishness " She yells walking out of the bathroom.
