Chapter 3: Love Ties
NEW YORK CITY, NY
JUNE 18thOMNISCIENT
TENSION lurked in the air, as Zahara sat rigidly in Emyr's dimly lit office, her heart pounding with a mix of anticipation and dread as she awaited Emyr's arrival. This would be the pairs first interaction in 5 years, since the man she once loved had turned against her with no hesitation, condemning her to a fate she never could've imagined. She could still feel the sting of betrayal like a reopened wound, the memories of their past flooding her mind every awakening moment.
Emyr entered the room, his presence looming over like a dark cloud over Zahara's already heavy heart. His eyes that were once filled with warmth and love, now burned with a cold hatred that would've sent a shiver down her spine. But this didn't faze her at all, as she shared the mutual feeling of hatred toward the man before her.
The two stared into each other's eyes, neither of them saying a word as there was a mutual tension between them, the air heavy with unspoken words and unresolved feelings. They couldn't shake the memories of their relationship, which were all good memories until they weren't. As the love they shared was now tainted by betrayal and mistrust.
She sat in front of the man she once couldn't see her life without, all the emotions from their relationship came swarming like a hoard of bees. The man she once loved had turned into the man she hates, and she would forever feel this way if it was up to her.
Emyr on the other hand felt conflicted. He still loved Zahara, but he would never tell her that because he believed it was easier to hate her than love her and try again. After the break up he spiraled, having to seek medical help in order to deal with his emotions. He was angry at Zahara, due to his knowledge of her living her best life in prison with not a thought about him or their relationship, when in reality, those 5 years were the worst years of her life.
During her time in prison, she had tried writing him. Despite the four concrete walls and iron bars then confined her, she poured her heart and soul into those letters, each one was a desperate plea for understanding.
Unbeknownst to Zahara, her letters had never reached Emyr's hands. They were intercepted by the guards, confiscated before they could've ever left the confined space of the prison walls. Emyr was left in the dark, unaware of the desperate messages that lay hidden from his sight, unaware of the pain that filled Zahara's heart with every day passing.
Among the letters that failed to reach Emyr was one that held a secret Zahara had kept buried deep inside her heart. It contained the news of her miscarriage, which had shattered her heart and left her numb to pain. She had poured out her anguish, heartache, and longing for their daughter they had lost before they could get to know her. But this all remained hidden from Emyr, who was unaware of the life they had created being taken away before he was even informed of the child's existence.
