ACT ONE, CHAPTER SEVEN
SHE WAS JUST SEVENTEEN, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
As the dawn broke over the Hogwarts castle, casting a golden hue over the towering turrets and sweeping lawns, whispers of excitement filled the air. Today was no ordinary day—it was Madelyn Laurent's 17th birthday.
In the Gryffindor common room, the atmosphere was electric with anticipation as Madelyn's friends gathered to prepare for the festivities ahead. Lily Evans, her closest friend, had taken charge of organizing the party, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she directed the final preparations.
Balloons in Gryffindor scarlet and gold adorned every corner of the room, their cheerful colors reflecting the joyous spirit of the occasion. Streamers crisscrossed the ceiling, shimmering in the soft glow of the enchanted lanterns that bathed the room in a warm, welcoming light.
As the hour grew near, the sound of laughter and chatter filled the common room, mingling with the tantalizing aroma of freshly baked treats that wafted from the nearby kitchens. Madelyn's friends had spared no effort in ensuring that her birthday would be a day to remember, and their excitement was palpable as they awaited her arrival.
When Madelyn finally descended the stairs into the common room, her eyes widened in astonishment at the sight that greeted her. The room was alive with color and motion, filled with her friends, each one wearing a smile that mirrored her own.
"Lily, you didn't have to go to all this trouble," Madelyn exclaimed, her heart swelling with gratitude as she took in the scene before her.
Lily grinned mischievously, her eyes dancing with excitement. "Nonsense, Madelyn! You only turn 17 once, and we're going to make sure it's a day you'll never forget."
As the festivities got underway, Madelyn found herself swept up in a whirlwind of laughter and joy. There were games to be played, presents to be opened, and a cake so magnificent that Madelyn couldn't help but gasp in wonder when she laid eyes on it.
But amidst the revelry, Madelyn's heart was filled with more than just gratitude for her friends' generosity. As she looked around the room at the faces of those she held dear, she felt a profound sense of belonging—a feeling that she was exactly where she was meant to be, surrounded by the people who mattered most to her.
As the hours passed and the celebration drew to a close, Madelyn found herself reflecting on the day's events with a smile. It had been a birthday beyond her wildest dreams, filled with love, laughter, and the kind of memories that would last a lifetime.
And as she blew out the candles on her cake, she wished for happiness, she wished for the world to have peace.
As the evening wore on, the festivities continued, each moment filled with its own special magic. Madelyn's friends reminded her of tales from their favorite memories together, each story punctuated by laughter and the occasional burst of applause.
Remus Lupin, had got her a leather bound book to which she could write in.
James Potter, had got the girl he saw as a little sister a huge bag of candy from hogsmeade, and a muggle t-shirt with a band she had never heard of on it.
And Sirius Black, the life of the party, had helped with organizing the party and he had got Madelyn a book of pictures of their whole group, though some pages left blank to create more memories.
But perhaps the most memorable moment of the evening came when Lily Evans unveiled her special gift for Madelyn—more of a group gift from all of them, a bracelet with charms that represented all of them, a moon for Remus, a dog for Sirius, a Stag for James, a Rat for peter, a book for Lily, candy for Madelyn and finally a snitch for Marlene.
"It's beautiful, guys," Madelyn breathed, her fingers tracing the delicate bracelet with awe. "Thank you so much."
Lily smiled, her eyes shining with affection. "You're welcome, Madelyn. I wanted to give you something that would remind you of how much you mean to all of us, even when we're not together. That's why I also charmed it so if one of us were to hold onto our charm you could say something into it and it would repeat it to everyone." She said showing her own bracelet, and then everyone showed theirs.
As Madelyn admired the bracelet and listened to Lily's explanation, she felt a rush of emotions welling up inside her. Each charm represented a piece of her heart, a connection to the friends who had become her family over the years. She glanced around at her friends, their faces glowing with warmth and affection, and she knew that she was truly blessed.
"Thank you, Lily, and thank you, everyone," Madelyn said, her voice choked with emotion. "I love it."
Her friends gathered around her, enveloping her in a group hug that felt like a cocoon of love and acceptance. In that moment, Madelyn felt a sense of belonging unlike any she had ever known. These were her people, her family even, and she knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together.
As the evening wore on, the celebration continued, each moment filled with laughter and joy. There were games to be played, songs to be sung, and memories to be made. Madelyn laughed until her sides hurt, danced until her feet ached, and reveled in the company of those she held most dear.
As the night drew to a close and the last of the guests departed, Madelyn found herself alone with her thoughts, her heart still soaring from the love and generosity of her friends. She glanced down at the bracelet on her wrist, the charms glinting in the soft light of the common room, and she knew that she would carry their friendship with her always, a beacon of light in even the darkest of times.
With a contented sigh, Madelyn curled up in her favorite armchair, the warmth of the fire lulling her into a peaceful slumber.
The rest of the group had all ended up falling asleep sprawled out around the common room. Late into the night, an owl flew threw the window of the gryffindor common room and dropped a piece of parchment onto Madelyn's lap.
She woke up from the owl pecking at her fingers, and she grabbed the letter, shooing the owl off.
'To my dearest niece,
Madelyn, Happy seventeenth Birthday darling. I remember when you were just a petit little thing, you have grown into a wonderful young woman. The necklace attached was your grandmothers. Your mother would never give it to you, so I decided I would. Cerelia would have wanted you to have it.
sending my love, Aunt Amelie."
Madelyn blinked sleepily as she read the letter, her heart fluttering with a mixture of surprise and gratitude. She carefully unfolded the parchment, taking in every word written by her aunt.
Gently, she untied the ribbon that held the necklace and lifted it from the small box. The pendant gleamed in the soft light of the common room, its delicate design twinkling with an otherworldly beauty. As she fastened it around her neck, Madelyn remember that not all of her family had been bad, there was simpler times.
With the necklace nestled against her skin, Madelyn curled up once more in her armchair. In the quiet of the Gryffindor common room, illuminated by the soft glow of the fire, Madelyn slept peacefully, her sleep dreamless.
