We were staring at each other, not daring to move a muscle.
I had told myself not to look at her again, that it would make it harder to say goodbye to her. But I couldn't. Not then. She was too mesmerizing.
Her bright green eyes were boring into me, wide and alert. The fur on her body was so vibrant and soft looking, and her ears were so majestic. I didn't know what I was waking up to, but the look on her face told me I didn't want to know. She just looked like she was a mixture of angry, hurt, disbelieving and ready to kill someone.
Hopefully that someone wasn't me.
"Abby?" The voice didn't sound like it belonged to me, but it came out of my mouth.
She looked like she was staring at a ghost. "Hey, Marcus."
I don't know how she managed to move that quickly over to the cage and jump onto the top, or rip the top open with her bare hands, causing the thing to shut down and collapse while allowing Adam, Bree, Chase, and Donald Davenport to escape, but she did. And the only thing I could do was stare in awe.
"Don't just stand there!" Dad snapped at me. "Get her!"
I hesitated for a moment before using my super speed to rush at her. She wasn't expecting that and stumbled backward when I pushed her, but didn't fall over. I actually felt some strong resistance from her, which I wasn't expecting. I should have guessed that she had some form of super strength from the fact that she ripped metal apart with her bare hands but I didn't expect her to be that strong.
What other powers do you have?
She took a swipe at me and nicked my skin slightly, but luckily there was no blood. Claws. I don't know why I didn't expect that, considering she looked like a tiger, but I was still slightly scared. She could actually hurt me.
She lunged at me and knocked me over, pinning me to the ground with her hands on my wrists, her legs crouched at the ready. She was panting, her eyes darting all over my face like she was looking for something wrong with it but she couldn't.
"I'm so sorry," she whispered.
I scrunched my eyes closed for a second, in disbelief. Those were three words I had never heard before in my life. I'm so sorry. I looked back up at her to see her draw her right hand back away from me, drawing her claws. My gut clenched at the sight and I braced myself, but my eyes met hers and that was when I saw it.
Tears.
She was crying.
I was confused by it but I saw her muscles tense for the blow but something threw her off of me and she yelped in pain, sliding across the floor away from me. I pushed myself up and glanced around, my eyes landing on my dad.
He had a gun in his hand.
And it wasn't a ray gun.
It was an actual pistol.
Abby was clutching her side, where a bloom of red was beginning to form under her hand. That was when everything happened at once.
Bree sped over to Abby, pulling her into her arms protectively while Adam punched my back when I stood, sending me stumbling forward and almost falling again. Mr. Davenport was fighting my dad, hand to hand combat. Apparently the old man had somehow managed to disarm Dad without much issue.
Then I noticed Chase.
He was sprinting up to me and I barely had enough time to block one of his punches. He started hitting me harder than I thought he was capable of doing. A vein was sticking out of his forehead and his eyes were blazing. I wasn't sure why he was so upset at me. I hadn't done anything to him yet. Maybe he was just mad at me for lying? No, that wouldn't have triggered the amount of rage he was presenting. Something else was going on. And it wasn't like I was able to ask.
I retreated up the stairs to the metal catwalk, Chase hot on my heels. I whirled around when I reached the top, somehow managing to land a hit to his gut amidst all of his wild swings. He punched me in the jaw and I saw stars for a moment, but I grabbed his wrist and twisted, using my super strength to throw him over the railing. He caught himself and hung there, his eyes wide with shock.
I rushed over to the panel on the wall and pushed a large red button. The floor beneath Chase's dangling body opened up to reveal a bunch of wheels with spikes on them like a paper shredder. I tried not to think about what would happen to him if he fell.
"Why do you have this in your house?" he yelped, his eyes clouded with pure terror.
I forced a chuckle. "This place used to be a meat factory. You could fit a whole cow in there."
"Chase!"
I jerked my head in the direction of the voice and saw Bree sprinting up the stairs with her super speed. My focused slipped for a moment when I remembered Abby. Why had Bree left her? Was she okay?
Is she still alive?
I pushed that thought out of my mind as I dodged some of her inhumanly fast kicks. I landed a blow on her stomach and she stumbled backward, glaring at me with her dark eyes.
"You're going to have to run faster than that, Cupcake," I taunted.
She straightened herself up. "Oh. I will."
She sped over to me faster than I could blink and knocked me into a wall.
I was on the ground. I couldn't see. I couldn't hear. There was a ringing in my ear, my mind was buzzing very audibly. I couldn't feel anything. I think I groaned but, I don't remember. All I know was at that moment, I was almost out cold. I kept fighting with myself to remain conscious. I kept thinking about Abby and getting back to her, finishing this fight and returning to her if she'd have me. Running away from all of this together. That would be something I could enjoy.
I don't know how, but I staggered to my feet. Everything was different than what it was. Bree and Adam were helping Mr. Davenport to his feet. Everyone was calm.
I couldn't see my dad, but there was this weird robot-looking guy there instead. I found myself glancing around frantically for Abby.
There!
She was still on the ground, holding her side and breathing heavily. She was no longer in her cat form and her shirt was plastered to her with sweat. She was leaning into the person holding her, gripping his shoulder for support as he used his molecular kinesis to pull---painfully and slowly---the bullet out of her flesh.
I heard her scream in pain.
That was when I saw that it was Chase who was holding her and rushed down the stairs, running to get to her. I had to help. I had to make her feel better. I couldn't bear seeing her like that, in so much pain. I wished I could take it from her and put it onto myself---
"Stop right there!"
I froze. Adam was glaring at me, his arms shaking in pure rage. Something in his eyes was off, something murderous.
"Look, I---"
"Stay away from her!" he bellowed, a growl deep in his throat.
The electricity started popping and flickering and a blue aura of pure energy started to crackle around Adam, his arms still shaking. I had never seen anything like this before. What was happening? Why was it happening?
And that was when I got pushed over by a wall of pure power.
That was when I saw the roof of my own house crash down on me.
That was when everything ceased to exist.
It has finally gotten to that point. Marcus Davenport has been crushed by the rubble. But wait . . . what's Abby supposed to be again? She's not bionic, so . . . what?
COULD IT BE THAT THERE IS A POSSIBLE X MEN CROSSOVER IN THE FUTURE???
I guess you'll just have to stay tuned on whether or not this happens in this story or a possible sequel (:
