Evelyn and Minerva were sat at the small couch in Minerva's quarters, the fire roaring in front of them and warming the room to ease the tension that came with the cool. Evelyn was tucked into a glass of wine, her pink lips stained red in the center as she read a muggle book. Her mind was racing with thoughts of Severus, her lips were so close to his just mere centimeters; yet neither of them had moved closer to the other. Perhaps it would have been a mistake, though she did not think so but what if Severus did?"Darling, careful with the glass, you'll tip it." Her mother's quiet voice rang in Evelyn's ears as her mom's hand tilted the wine glass back up, her hand lingering against her daughter's for a moment.
"Sorry mum, I think I'm just tired is all." Evelyn attempted to give her a small smile, but it tugged into a larger one when she saw a real smile flash across her mother's features for the first time in a while.
"I should bloody think so after 4 glasses of wine." Her words were littered with humour, coming out more of a chuckle as she watched her daughter's eyes sparkle looking into her own.
"Mum!" She set the glass down on the table, pushing her body against Minerva's, the two enveloping into a cuddle on the couch. "I've missed you."
"Oh my little love, I should have been there for you." Minerva rubbed her cheek with her thumb lightly, a mother's love crashing into Evelyn's heart as tears threatened to spill from her eyes.
"No matter, none of that matters," Evelyn looked up at Minerva while she spoke, "I'm just so happy to see that smile again." Her cheeks felt like they were burning from the smile that stayed graced on her lips.
"Well, then how lucky am I to get to see that beautiful smile staring back at me?" The question was clearly rhetorical, and it made Evelyn flutter with emotions as she was starting to see a semblance of her mother return to her.
The two spent the night laughing together, for the first time in years Minerva and her daughter were having a good night; no intrusive thoughts about that night, no tears, just the two of them seeming to be happy for the first time all over again. Watching her mother start to come back made emotions flood through Evelyn, her mother's eyes looked like a child's who had just walked into a sweets shop. There was excitement and love there, Evelyn felt herself wondering if Severus' return had anything to do with her mum feeling a sliver of happiness again.
...
Severus was up late, not that this was unusual, he was tempted to take a dreamless sleep potion and just fall into his old bed; but he wanted the girl that came to visit him in his dreams. Severus grabbed his cloak and decided that a walk to the library would help in his quest for sleep, but as soon as he went to lock the door to his quarters he was met with the sounds of women laughing, and loud muggle music playing.
'You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life!" It almost sounded like Minerva, but after what Severus had seen from her today he doubted it. He walked closer to the sound, finding himself right in front of the door to her quarters, opening it softly to see what the bloody hell was going on.
'You're a teaser, you turn 'em on," Evelyn was standing on the coffee table, a wine glass in one hand and a hairbrush in the other, which appeared to be being used as a microphone. Severus felt his cheeks burn as he watched her sway her hips to the beat, the silk material of her bed shorts moving just enough to let him see the crease of her asscheek as she danced. 'Leave 'em burning and then you're-'
'Gone!' Both Evelyn and Minerva screamed that part, Evelyn getting down from the table and pulling her mum up to dance with her as they sang a long to the song, each taking sips occasionally until Minerva did a turn and saw Severus.
