you could hear police sirens as you left the room and out into the hallway. kaze was waiting with the knife in hand, leaning back against the wall as she moved the stainless steel so it could catch the dim lighting above.

"the police will be here any minute now." you cleaned your blade of riku's blood before putting it back in your hilt. part of you wanted to feel bad for killing him. maybe things could've worked out better for him. but even if he was forced to, he still fucked over your life. that, was unforgivable, and the rage and betrayal that was allowing you to keep going poured over like wine in a glass. just like he couldn't be blamed for being forced, you couldn't be blamed for not forgiving him. you took out another face mask and handed it to kaze. "put this on. we can't be seen."

she took it from you and put it over her mouth. now all that was visible were her dark eyes. she was emitting steam as usual. her silver hair was flowing down her shoulders; kind of frizzy and messy, but you weren't expecting anything. the thing that had shocked you the most though was that she was still in her dress from the wedding, and it was in tact.

"are you okay?" you asked her, and you noticed her side eye you.

she nodded and stood up straight. "just a little shaken up." when noticing that riku wasn't behind you, her eyes shifted to curiosity. "where's riku?"

you stared at her with what looked to her like an intimidating glare. she seemed different to you now. she didn't seem as timid and nervous as you knew her to be, and it made you sigh as you took her hand and led her to the front of the building. "don't worry about him. he's the reason i lost you."

she gulped at your answer. none of this was her fault; quite the contrary, as you risked your life to save her. but somehow she still felt like you were after her. nothing about you right now screamed friendly. was she finally seeing the side to you all of your enemies saw? sorry to them, she thought.

because you were so kind. "do you wanna change? i have spare clothes."

kaze shook her head, allowing you to guide her throughout the now destroyed building. "what are you doing out here?" small chips of wood from the walls and ceilings took a fall. the paintings and lit candles gave for a creepy haunted mansion vibe. "did u.a let you leave? where's shoto?"

a slight pang in your heart ensued, but you didn't let it be seen on your face. "i don't go to u.a anymore."

kaze's eyes widened as you two stopped near the entrance. you were off to the side away from the door. "w-why?" she was scared to ask. she didn't want that to be her fault. she knew u.a was your home, so if you left to go look for her, kaze wouldn't be able to live with the guilt.

"it's complicated." was all that you said. she watched you scan your arms and legs for any open wounds or dirty bandages. they were in decent condition, but you were not. your hair was messy but not at the same time. it was slightly dirty and out of your way. she watched you hide it with your hood. you had dirt on your face, dark eye bags and dull eyes. your face- what was visible had cuts and dirt. she noticed the new scar you had on your face. your mask covered your nose and mouth, but kaze could imagine the frown that was present on your lips. your outfit was slightly dirty as well, with your exposed arms all bandaged up and scraped. the same could be said for your legs, old and new cuts and bruises, as well as bandages and band-aids. you looked not well, and kaze could tell you were tired, either physically or mentally, but maybe it was both. "but i don't belong there anymore."

"why?" her timid answer brought you back to when you first met her. she watched your eyes trail to the floor slowly, and even if half of your face was covered, she knew you were sad.

"i'm not a hero." you answered before turning to face her and scanning all of her to make sure nothing looked off. "does anything hurt?"

you grabbed her arm and started cleaning it. she let you do so, only wincing slightly when it hurt. "i'm fine. they didn't do anything to me, just kept me here to lure you." you two made eye contact. "at least that's what they said."
