We both stood there for a moment, unsure of how to approach things. I was feeling nervous and excited, but also a bit uncomfortable. Carter seemed to sense that, and he started talking to fill the silence;
Carter: "So uh, I heard you like photography? Is that a hobby of yours?"
Marie: "Yeah, it's a passion of mine. I've been taking pictures ever since I got a camera for my birthday a few years back."
Carter: "Oh, I see. And you mentioned you work at a library? What's that like?"
Marie: "Well, it's honestly not too bad. The work can get pretty monotonous but it gives me a lot of time to read, The library's pretty quiet most of the time, which is perfect for me."
Carter: "It must be nice to have a job where you can just take things easy. In my work, I'm constantly dealing with unpredictable situations and deadlines, so it can get pretty stressful at times."
Marie: "So, what do you do for work, anyway?"
Carter: "I'm actually a programmer for a tech firm. It's a pretty demanding job but I really enjoy it; it's like solving puzzles all day long, and when you figure something out, it's incredibly satisfying."
I then thought to myself, Tech film? Programming? Major turn off.
I decided not to set any standards though.
