Nine days later...
"Open this fucking door Eugene." I scream as I pound on his door. There is no way I am going to let this filthy scum cheat me out of my money. "We had an agreed upon price and this is only half."
"I am sorry Gray, I can not help you. We were robbed after we hired you." He calls me by the only name they know on the street. Gray from Lerans last name Grayson. The only thing in this world who knows my true name and that's Selna. In my line of work your name is power, once someone can wield you name you lose everything, or at least that's what the superstition is. I still don't want to take a chance. Leran went by her true name and look what happened. Leran was the person who named me and who knew my name. Now no one knows my name.
I could feel his weight on the other side of the door shift. Now I was getting angry. Who does he think he is. Cheating me out of my hard-earned money. He didn't dirty his hands. I took a step back and waited a minute. I just sat there quietly. Waiting for him to get comfortable enough to open and peak out. Sure enough I see his grubby little fingers and then his eyes. I look at him and smirk, without a second thought I kick his door where all his weight was with all my leg strength. I split the door in half and this less than a man is crawling backwards with his hand in the air already begging.
"I just want my money, weasel." I take a step closer to him. I can smell the piss coming from in between his legs. Are you serious? This isn't the first time he has hired me, but it is the last time.
"I really don't have any. Take anything you think is valuable." I turn in the same spot; he really does not have anything. I caught a glimpse of something red and blue on the desk. I move closer to it. It is a small paper weight that looks like an egg. I stuff it in my breast pocket. The sorry excuse of a man, Eugene, sees me do this and whimpers. I turned back to him, smiling.
"You said I could have anything; I want this." I pat the pocket where it is. I started walking towards him again. "Just because you hired me, and I am leaving you alive does not mean I am a good person. I want you to remember this for the next person you try to cheat." I took out my five-inch blade it was the very first knife I have ever gotten. I bend lower almost to a crouch to the point where I am almost face to face with Eugene. I look at my blade and look at his face, without hesitation I plunge my knife in the inside of his knee, feeling it go through his bone I pull out, rip a piece of cloth off his cardigan, clean my blade and replace it on my arm. I didn't even register when he started screaming.
"You fucking bitch, I will kill you." This makes me laugh. Many people have tried, even fewer have lived. I wrap his knee in that same piece of cloth I used to clean my blade. Stand up and walk out of the room and down the stairs. I still hear him screaming. When anyone deals with me, it is always alone, which I find incredibly stupid. He won't die by the time someone gets here but he won't ever be able to walk again.
I walk out of this shit excuse of a building. It's like an abandon warehouse but unlike those this one has no use whatsoever. It just has one office that is used on the second floor.
Outside my invaluable steed is waiting for me, Selna
Selna was the best horse a women could ever steal. She was being bred constantly and pushed out in the field till she kept falling over. I was passing by for my job and overheard her owners talking about putting her down. I walked over and offered to buy her, but they said, "Who would want unwanted goods" and "she'll be dead by nightfall it ain't worth it". I do not know what got me angrier, the fact that they wouldn't sell her to me for five times her worth or the fact they degraded her so much when it was their doing. I saw all the brand-new colts they had and how they only had two females. I waited until they were eating inside their house, and I snuck into the barn. The animals didn't even notice I was there. Selna didn't notice I was there until I was whispering in her ear telling her to let's go and that I was going to take her to a better place. I think she knew I was safe because she got up so slowly, took smalls steps and followed me. That was when I made an agreement with the owners of the tavern to help me nurse her back to health. I gave them almost every penny I had but here she was tougher, stronger, and more loyal than any animal I have ever known. I slept in the barn with her.
