I awoke to the smell of burnt toast and sun blasting onto my eyes as it shined through the rips in the curtain, my eyelids felt stiff and sluggish as I attempted to open them, giving my eyes a quick rub to clear the feeling I sat up.
Looking around at my familiar room of posters and graphity covered cream walls I stretched my body and stepped out of my cozy bed, reaching my arms above me until I heard a click in my shoulders and the feeling of a good stretch.

I opened my bedroom curtains and gazed out onto the other houses looking through into the neighbours trashed backyard, I cracked my window open slightly and made my way to my bedroom door, glancing quickly at the old speed traffic photograph I had of me Chook and Cash, in the front seats of a car we'd stolen going well above the speed limit, smiling and opening the door I was greeted by a more pungent burnt toast smell.

I meandered into the kitchen greeted by Chook's back as he cussed out our toaster, it was a shitty cheap Kmart toaster we may or may not have nicked from the shop, I paused resting my hip on the counter giving myself a moment to admire his back while he was hunched over bangin his hand against the broken thing, god you could tell he lifted weights.

"Morning Chook" I spoke breaking the silence.

Chook turned straightening himself as he rested against the sink giving me a quick lipped smile.

"Mornin B, this bloody munted shit won't work"
Smiling and shaking my head I responded
"Nah you just don't have the gift Chooky boy, gotta put some love into it"

Admittedly the toaster was shit and unable to decide wether to make burnt to a blackened mass piece of toast or a barley done one.
Chook just shook his head taking a knife from the draw and deciding to scrap the char off and into the sink before slathering it in butter and raspberry jam, it was a funny joke between me and him that he liked raspberry jam on toast and made me swear never to tell the boys, when they asked I simply always just said it was mine whenever they dug through the fridge.

Stepping past him to reach the bread and toaster I popped my slices in and then headed for the kettle flicking the switch to get the water boiling.

"Tea?" I asked glancing towards Chook munching on his toast.

"Nah I ain't an old sheila" he smirked
"I gotta go, meeting up with the lads, you all good makin your way to school?" He asked.

I nodded turning back to the kettle as it started to make boiling noises, picking it up just before the switch was gonna go off and pouring it into my cup, meanwhile Chook was shuffling about picking up his keys and placing his pack of durrys and phone into his tracky pants.
Stepping towards the kitchen doorway before popping his head back in.

"I'll text ya later when I'll be back" he spoke
"Yeah yeah be safe!" I called out as he made his way down the hallway to the door.

I heard the door close and quickly finished up on my brekky before heading back into my room to get dressed for the beginning first term in my final year of school.
