From the start

I “don’t know what I'm doing..”

How do I even begin?

Where do I even start with this?

None of this made any sort of sense

Here you were, sat in the almost empty library looking through any and all newspaper articles you could find that involved the Nicholes family. All that could be seen were simply articles that spoke of the families accomplishments along with their charitable acts that were mainly done by Ben's father whose name you learned was Draven. Nothing stuck out to you whatsoever, the only article you could find that had any sort of clue was the one you had found involving Ben’s body being discovered.

With a frustrated sigh you ran your hand through your hair before you winced feeling a sharp pain run up your arm. Upon glancing at it, a red line glowed in your veins reminding you of the person you were now connected to. Reminding you of the choice you made. You are too kind.

A whispered chuckle echoed in your head sending a chill up your spine.

“Having trouble there already?”

Ben’s voice whispered in your ear behind you causing you to whip around in your seat to face his looming form. In this light you could truly see how wicked he looked. After shaking your head back to reality you simply furrowed your brow.

“You know you were not exactly a social butterfly like the rest of your family so it’s a little hard finding even a smudge of information about you. I got lucky I even found a picture of what you looked like and that was when you were a kid.”

You huffed out your response

He simply raised an eyebrow before he scoffed and rested his arm on your head as he leaned forward to look at all the articles you found.

“Not that I wasn’t social, dear old Dad just didn’t like who I was social with that’s all. Also my mom said I wasn’t the most photogenic person. I minded my business and didn’t care for whatever charity bullshit my parents had going on. It was all scams anyway”

You figured as much. You then felt a sudden dizziness and it felt like you had no control over your own head before your head just went limp forward. You hear Ben click his tongue before he took his arm off your head and soon you got feeling back in it. Rubbing your head you blinked a few times to steady yourself.

“What in the hell is the deal with that anyway?”

Ben just shrugged

“Just happens when I touch someone, thought it was like some possession stuff like in the movies but I don’t know.”

You simply shrugged off the feeling before you gathered up the articles and stuffed them in your book bag. Getting up and adjusting the strap of your bag over your shoulder you glanced at Ben.

“Well whatever it is, don't do it again. C’mon we’re gonna go look around, maybe you can recognize someone around town.”

You watched Ben disappear into a black fog before the fog shot straight into your chest, it felt like a hard punch and made you double over as the wind was knocked out of you for a second. Once you made a recover you coughed a few times before letting out a frustrated sigh.

“A little warning would be nice next time”

You heard Ben simply laugh before you shook your head and headed out of the library. The streets were pretty empty, the skies grey, and the air was chilled.

You were in the middle of adjusting your bag strap again as you walked out and bumped into an older man.

“I’m so sorry!”

You quickly apologized as the man just chuckled and adjusted his hat as he stared down at you. As you looked at the man, you felt a sudden anger brew inside of you, your body grew hot all over and it was making you angrier. But the feeling wasn’t from you. No. It was Ben, something about this man made Ben angry beyond belief. You tried to calm yourself

“No need to be sorry young lady, say.. You’re Eric’s girl aint ya? Just moved into the house by the old lake?”

“Uh yeah that’s me.”

You kept your response simple, the way this man presented himself made it obvious he was not interested in what YOU had to say. The man strokes his thick gray beard as he appears to be thinking of something.

“You know I tried telling your daddy that the house is too big for just the both of ya, offered to take it off his hands but he refused. Maybe you could talk some sense into him for me?”

Ben growled and you could hear it all around you, like a dog ready to strike at someone's throat.

“No we like the house very much, sorry I have to go”

“C’mon just give me a number”

You quickly walked away leaving the man there.

Your entire body felt like you were on fire, your hands were shaking, your jaw was clenched. You had never felt this much anger in your life. You ran, you had to get home to calm down.

You kept running even as your lungs burned and your throat felt rough from breathing heavily, your legs hurt so bad but something kept you from stopping. Even as you passed your house you kept running until you were pushing through brambles and shrubs to the very edge of the lake. There you collapsed, you could see your reflection in the water as you started trembling and dry heaving. Finally a thick black liquid spilled from your mouth like it was climbing out of your body, you could feel your body growing colder as the liquid spilled out. The unknown substance was hot and hissed as it touched the cold water.
It felt like barbed wire was being forcefully pulled from inside of your body and ripping your throat apart. Finally the thick ooze plopped out with a disgusting wet smack on the water leaving you worn, you no longer felt hot. Coughing and trembling from the experience, you watched as Ben began to form from the liquid with a raging scream that followed after he rose from the water.
He was breathing heavily and clutching at his tangled and matted hair.

“Ben?”

He didn’t respond

“I’m going to kill him.. Going to rip his filthy fucking hands from his disgusting body and strangle his fat fucking throat with them.. I’m going to kill him.. Kill him.. Kill.. Kill!”

“Ben!”

He turned his attention to you, he looked malicious. His teeth clenched, eyes wide, his hands were shaking as he kept breathing heavily. He finally slowly approached your form on the ground before he crouched down and leaned in close, so close you could smell rot and death as his head snapped to the side and let out a disgusting crack.

“And you’re going to help me..”
