" You came" the voice of the 5 special forces regiment commanding officer W Nel sounded enthusiastic as an ear to ear smile appeared in his wrinkled face his eyes shone with clear adoration for the person before him. " I thought I should, I mean I couldn't imagine the disappointment in your face when I tell you that I would not take your mission so I thought I should come and see for myself" shadow smirked as the smile on the now disappointed old man left his lips in mere seconds his eyes became hollow lines of stress filled his face though now wrinkled it was easy to tell that he was one fine man during his prime"have a seat" he offered as he went on to pour themselves some refreshments "Whisky or Gin?" "I'll take whisky two shots raw " the colonel fixed the drinks for the both of them giving the other glass to his guest he sat on his mahogany office table" I knew you'd turn me down, but I couldn't help it but have hope" he downed his shot Shadow chuckled " hope does not kill a man, though it can disappoint if you already knew my answer why did you bother asking" setting down the glass Shadow leaned down on the chair as manner of relaxation "how was Afghanistan?" the old man asked his voice calm and collected his cold eyes fixated on the person before him "we both know I did not come here for that, and if you must know I was in Ukraine, I left Afghanistan six months ago for the DRC then from DRC to Ukraine after all they don't call me Shadow for nothing your people wouldn't find me that easy even if they prayed" the colonel laughed "my Intel told me you were in Afghanistan" "that's how stupid military personels and their intelligence can be". " I did not ask you here to insult us" " then if you weren't really to hear the truth you shouldn't have contacted me from the start" " I didn't want to trust me I didn't" he told his guest with sincerity in his voice "then why did you? " " because am desperate and desperate times requires desperate measures" the guest laughed causing the colonel to drop his gaze "how pathetic you guys can be, and why would you really think I'd help you, how many times must I tell you Wolves don't perform in a circus" "we'll pay you what ever amount you need" he promised earning himself another laughter " both me and you know that I don't need money" the colonel huffed in defeat "please our country as at stake here" he then again begged the smirk in Shadow's face drew wide as a disgusted expression filled Shadow's face " your country huh?, me and you both know I serve no country am a mercenary after all am loyal to no flag but the paper" the voice came out as cold as the wind "even mercenaries are soldiers, so I came to you as a fellow soldier asking for help not as an army commanding officer so please help" " I just won't ruin my reputation by associating me or any of my man with you" "Shadow please you know am not the type to beg but we not only fearing for our country here, the whole world could be in great danger we are talking about a mad terrorist group with a nuclear weapon here" "why should I care you know am rich enough to leave this country" "what about your mother, think about her this weapon could destroy the world" his voice broke " luckily I already have enough to move both my mom and I to the moon or mars, I guess mars would do I just like the idea of me and my mom living in mars" Shadows voice remain cold and stoic" am really sorry I have to resort to this but I really have no other choice" he huffed then raising his gaze again his eyes searched for a little hope on the face of his guest then he continued " then if you won't do it either for money or the country please do it for him" as if he'd hit a certain nerve the guest laughed a hysterical laughter that could only be heard from a madman's lips " do it for him" the guest tried to remain calm as set of different emotions filled the guest face as if the guest was battle with emotions and eventually lost the fight hot fast tears streamed from the eyes of the guest "why would I do anything for the man who never did anything for me" the guests voice was now trembling "why?" the second why come as barely as a whisper "we both know that's not true, we both know how much he loved you and your mom" "Love!!!" the guest screamed as if agitated as it abruptly causing the chair to fall the guest stood with fisted trembling hands "that man loved no one but his stupid country!!" the guest screamed again "that's not true we both know that he loved you more than anything which is why he took the oath to protect those he loved" the colonel tried to calm the guest down he knew this was a sensitive subject he shouldn't have touched but it was his only hope "stop lying to me, he did everything for his stupid desires for honour and what did that lead him too? a shameless death with no honour or pride all that negletion my mom and I suffered was for nothing his own country the same country he loved with every muscle in his living body betrayed him, framed him with treason and like a dog he died" the screaming was getting worse "at least you know it's his country that betrayed him at least you know he was a man of honour, I guess that's enough for him and those who respected him" "what does that matter when the whole world and the country he loved remembers him as a traitor" the voice was now softening " then take this mission restore his honour, his pride let the country feel sorry for what they did to him" " why should one work so hard to be a hero but to die a villain?" asked the guest tears still falling down the face"am sorry I know the main reason you became a mercenary was to find that man who is responsible for your fathers death" "you don't know anything about me, and you're wrong I did it for money" only if looks could kill the colonel would have been dead by now " am sorry, then do it for money we don't know maybe you'll find closure after questioning the man who betrayed him, don't you want it to be you who puts a bullet in his skull" the colonel sounded convincing as the guest poured a drink downing it at a go " you lying you just need expandables, pawns to lead you to your victory. You just need nobodies that you'll be able to dispose for the sake of your man and the succession of the operation" this supprisingly angered the colonel as he let out an angry chuckle "pawns huh?, yes you right pawns as a mercanary that's all you'll ever be a pawn someone expandable but you wrong I didn't choose you because I needed pawns there are many other good mercanary troops out there who would take my offer without me having to lose my pride and beg" he fisted his hands his knuckles whitened "then why, why did you choose me?" the colonel huffed "because I want you to do what me and my country failed to do for him, I want you to finish what he started but mostly I want you to find closure and not survive" he told his guess tears filling his eyes with sincerity in his voice the guest shoulders dropped " am not promising you anything old man but I'll have to think about it" the voice was steady and calm " thank you" the old man smiled showing his yellowed teeth "don't thank me just yet" the guest rose to leave "how is your mother?" the colonel asked as his guest back was now all he could see "alive" the colonel smiled "stay alive yourself and shadow am sorry for having to ask you this after I'd told you, you'd never make it as a mercenary I didn't say because I did not believe in you but it was my last resort to protect what was left of him try not to hate me so much and one day I hope you'll call me uncle like how you used too before" "I don't hate you, I just can't stand people like you or him" the guest told him and he smiled " it's good to know you don't hate me, am proud of you after all a leaf never falls far from it's tree" the smile never left his face "am nothing like him, I'd never neglect anyone" "am just saying it's true that you are lieutenant colonel Voyi's child it can't argued you have his DNA in your blood with that I trust you'll make the best decision" "you could have just said you needed exapandles and not drag him into this" the guest closed the door behind them leaving the colonel alone, shaking his head he laughed "that man made himself, how stubborn can a person be" lighting his cigarette closing his eyes after taking a drag he let the nicotine run it's course in calming him down he had just another stubborn soul to deal with.
