He had a gentle smile, but cold eyes. A tall, powerful posture and soft words. His gentle, red eyes had glowed in the dark night, as he continued forward on the sidewalk.
"So, Y/N, where are you headed?" He asked me, his head turning slightly to the side.
I figured he would've asked that, since he kinda is walking with me to shelter me from the rain.
"Im headed home, really. On the south side of town where the little Mexican Bakery is?"
"Tía Lorena's Bakery? I've been there a few times."
"Oh, so you know where we are headed then?"
"Yea," He says with a soft smile, the rain pounding against the umbrella. We walked for a few minutes without saying any words, but... it felt nice. I felt safe with him. He had a warm presence in the cold night, he was like a shining beacon in the dead of night.
The rain hadn't slowed down, but it picked up more. We had been walking for... how long? It feels like hours, but it's probably just been ten minutes.
He walked so gracefully and quickly, it was hard to keep up. I mean, yea, he's tall, he's got long legs, makes sense, but still; it's hard to keep up with him.
Soon, the rain had started to turn into slush. Its snowing. The raindrops had turned into white crystals, falling slowly onto the ground. They were so pure and white, just like his fur. He didn't seem cold nor bothered by the weather, but seemed to enjoy it. Fuck, I don't care how pretty it is out here, it's cold. I really wish I checked the forecast this morning...
The cars on the road begin to disappear, as night goes on, the traffic dies down. 15 minutes now.
"So... were you originally headed this way too?" I ask. I feel stupid for doing it, am I bothering him?
"No." He says quietly, as if trying to listen to something else.
"Oh. Where were you headed initially?"
"Home," he says distractedly, focusing on something in the distance.
"Do you mind if I ask what's in your bag?" I ask, curious. I start realizing how dangerous it is to just walk with some random stranger this late. He looks tall enough and strong enough to kill me... oh god.
"It's just a few gifts for a friend. Tomorrow's her birthday." He says with a smile, turning his head to look at me.
"Oh, that's neat." I say feeling uneasy, that safe feeling I had going away. "Why did you decide to come with me and share your umbrella?"
"It's what a gentleman does, no? If one sees another in cold weather getting drenched, it's common courtesy to offer them an umbrella to share. Thats what I was taught, at least." He shakes the umbrella a bit, water and slush falling off of it.
"Oh. So... how are you going to get home?"
"I'll walk. It's not far, I don't think."
"Oh." We continue walking, before I realize we've finally left the busy streets and are now on a unoccupied road, with small houses having their porch lights on. The dim lights had helped the snowflakes shine in the cold air, a million dancers in just a few feet. The sky was now cold and quiet, the only sounds being my feet. Von Lycaon walks quietly, I can't hear him.
"Look." We pass a small bakery, the fresh scent of baked goods and the newly cleaned smell of pine-sol was to our right.
"You said your home is close by, no? How about we stop for a bite?" He says to me, a soft smile. "Plus, I do want to get out of this snowy slush. How does that sound?"
