Knowing they wouldn't get any further with speculating about what they don't know Yao Guo changed the subject. "That's enough about you, time to think about someone else for a change. You guys messing about for weeks have caused a lot of stress on my poor girls." His poor girls referring to his wife and monster of a daughter. "You already know we've been trying to have another kid..."
"So that's what this was all about, that's why you wanted me to return as soon as possible, it didn't have to do with the preparations at all... You really are just Like Wei Ying!" Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes. "Don't worry, with how good you two are together I'm sure she'll be more than willing to keep trying after the wedding..." Jiang Cheng started but was swiftly interrupted.
"Dumbass!" He exclaims as he hits Jiang Cheng's arm. "Because of you my pregnant wife has had to struggle without her husband's support for two whole weeks"
"Pregnant!? She's pregnant!? The kid is finally coming?" Jumping with joy he straight up tackled the soon-to-be-father to the ground with excitement. Yao Guo and his wife had been trying for almost a year without any luck and were starting to worry if it was even possible. After all, though the Yao treated Luo Feng like his own they weren't actually related by blood. But as it turns out in a couple of years there would be yet another little brat running around Lotus Pier causing trouble. "Congratulations man. But why didn't you tell me? I would have hurried back in that very moment!" the same way he had done back when Jin Ling was announced. He'd dropped everything to come to his sister and annoying brother-in-law's aid.
"I wanted to tell you in person, but when you came back to Yunmeng you were so excited about the fact that you were going to propose that I didn't have the heart to outshine your announcement. I mean you've liked sect leader Lan for longer than I've even known my wife exists." That was Yao Guo for you, the greatest brother Jiang Cheng had.
"But I'm still sorry you couldn't be there for her as much as you should." Jiang Cheng said.
"Haha, if there's anyone you should thank it's your niece. She's been a real trooper as she took care of her mother when I was too busy to do so. Did you know she's already strong enough to carry almost three liters of barf all by herself? That's my strong little girl." He said with great pride. And though he tried to make it sound positive the fact that he couldn't be there when his wife was that sick was very unfortunate.
"I'll make sure to get such a good girl something nice for all of her hard work" Jiang Cheng promised. Most little girls her age would want a doll, or a pretty piece of jewelry, but not their A-Feng. No she would probably want something more akin to a sword or perhaps a foal would be better. She wasn't that far away from starting riding lessons, having her own horse to look forward to wouldn't be too bad.
"Though perhaps you should wait a bit until her list of wants goes back to normal. The only thing she's been wanting nowadays is a sister... I don't even want to think about what she'll do if the baby turns out to be a boy." Yao Guo said with a heavy sigh.
Jiang Cheng laughs. "If it turns out to be a boy perhaps the thing I should get her is some more time off for her father, so that she can get that sister she really wants" he said with a suggestive wink.
"Well someone has to make sure the Jiang sect is still producing children" Yao Guo cheekily responded.
"You don't know, one day that crazy brother of ours might figure out a way for me to bear a child." Jiang Cheng said, looking down at his disappointingly flat and empty stomach. The thought of carrying Lan Xichen's child, however farfetched it was, filled him with a soft longing for the future. Longing for a family he'd probably never get.
"Perhaps. If anyone is going to do it, it's certainly going to be A-Xian" Yao Guo concurred as he began to push Jiang Cheng off of himself from having been tackled to the floor. He didn't usually have a problem with physical contact, in fact he was just as touchy-feely as a certain Wei, but all of a sudden he was very adamant about getting away from him. His reason, as it turns out, was a white-clad cultivator who had just finished getting his robes adjusted.
"It's your turn to try on your robes" Lan Xichen said, his voice sounding the same as always. Turning around his head Jiang Cheng searched for hints of jealousy, but thankfully found none. Perhaps Lan Xichen was a lot more secure in their relationship than he'd previously worried. Smiling up at the Lan he took the hand offered to him without a second thought and was helped up to his feet.
"Alright then. Guo, feel free to go home for the day. I've got things covered here." He assured the man. The other had a wife and child in dire need of his help, Jiang Cheng could handle things around Lotus Pier on his own.
"Are you sure?" he asked. They were very behind on the schedule and there was still a lot left to do.
"Of course I'm sure, you've got everything that needs to be done written down haven't you?" The Yao nodded. Everything had been well documented as always.
"Then I'm sure we can manage the rest of the day without you. I've got Lan Xichen helping me out. We've got it handled, now go home" Jiang Cheng demanded, before turning around and leaving the two cultivators alone in the hall, leaving no time for objections.
