(A/N) I have taken a course on writing to help my, you guessed it, writing skills. I hope my work is at least a bit better, especially now that I don't have Autocorrect checking my spelling and grammar mistakes. So chapters may be a bit longer and more, descriptive, i guess.
(Nico PoV)
As we walked accross abandoned fields filled with sparks of yellow flowers lighted up by the morning sun, I knew that something was wrong with me.
I tried to act as fine as I could, letting the early breeze have the chance to cure me.When I realised the feeling of discomfort and dizziness was going to be permanent for the day, I slowly approached Will as he kicked tiny, chalky rocks out of the way. Making sure nobody was focusing on us, I curled my fingers around his, tightening with force.
He glanced at me, nodded in acknowledgement and kept his steady steps in a straight line, or as straight as he can, closely following our current guides, Jason and Percy.
Tranced and somnolent due to the lack of sleep of yesterday's late night and my need to rest, I decided that letting my thoughts ramble at each other wouldn't harm anyone.
If anything, it could make the silence that had fallen on top of us demigods like a muffling blanket, less boring.
I thought back on the past two days. One simple word came to mind. One that my English teachers claim to be overused. Quick. Very quick. Like a gush of wind carrying a lot of different scent had impacted against us and backed away just as quickly, leaving me confused.
It might have been because my full conscience hadn't always been present the last 36 hours. Maybe events had really been very quick, giving a glimpse to keep us alert but not fully. It might just have been the writer of my story, unsure of how a story is supposed to be set out, instead deciding to get past the introduction the quickest ro reach better events quicker.
Imagine that, it makes no sense at all, haaahaa. Ha.
One way or.another, time had passed quickly, and now my mind suddenly had chosen to think exactly about that.
How convinient for the author. But what had happenned yesterday? As fizzy as my mind was, I could still make it out pretty well.
Recapitulemos.
Will had been feeling some sort of guilt for the last few days because her mother was, as usual, trying to lure him back to his old life. Now Will felt that to the extreme, since him not believing it- or more like trusting it- had resulted in her grandmother's death.
I had tried to check if she had really died. Maybe a small harmless call to her. If she was in the Underworld, listening, she would answer and we could be sure that Will's mother (your mother-in-law sweetie) was telling the truth.
However, Will didn't even have a photo of her, which means she would be hard to track by me, if I don't even know her and all.. Not wanting to risk invoking way too many 'Will's Gran', I had given up.
Deciding to trust his mother-or more like having no other choice- we had packed our bags, accompanied by 4 other demigods: Jason, Piper, Percy and Annabeth. Permission to leave was granted by Chiron almost immediatetely, followed by a rapid, demigod-friendly way of spawning here- shadowtravelling.
That might actually be the reason now I feel disorientated. Not much sleep, too much straining. Hooray.
Now, we were following Jason and Percy, who had managed to take hold of Will's phone. They weren't good at guiding, and I'm sure we didn't have to make so many turns.
In fact, the third time I saw a rock that looked like a kitten, I picked it up. We were really, really lost, I realised. If we crossed the same way one more time I swear I would jump on Percy and screech like a wild animal as I got grasp of my boyfriend's phone.
The thought made me giggle, and everyone except for Will turned to me, not comprehending and demanding an explanation. I didn't want to give one but our awesome guides stopped in their tracks.
"We are sooo lost right now. We're probably further than when we started. I've seen this rock so many times I had to pick it up." I took the rock out of Will's cargo shorts' pocket and showed it to the others. Somehow, I had subconsciously put it there. "It looks like the skeleton kitties in my father's palace. They are cute and fluffy and pretty much the only animal that doesn't heed after seeing me."
"Real."
"Percy, can you come a bit closer?"
"Why?"
"Becausssse,"I elongated the 's', ''I want to strangle you.''
''Unwelcoming.''
''Then shut it.''
''Fine.''
Piper whispered something over to Annabeth before we continued.
Like syncronized lions, they leapt up to their respective boyfriend and Annabeth took the phone."Are you kidding me?" muttered Annabeth as she passed the google maps for Piper to see.
"How?" she questioned in a really high tone, "Oh my gods, we're half an hour away? By car?"
They kept the phone and guided us in the correct direction. Thank the goddesses Athena and Aphrodite for their awesome daughters and for providing the only way in this planet to control those two crazy creatures.
"Are we there yet?"
"No, Brick Head."
"Are we there yet?''
''No, Seaweed Brain.''
A constant line of high pitch- much like a hospital's line to show someone's heartbeat to have died, intruded my mind. After pressing my ears and determining that the sound had settled there with no plans to move, I had to admit defeat.
Annoying sound 1, Nico 0
I started to zone the conversations out. The unexpected ringing in my ears was too loud, too piercing, like the high pitched sound that comes from a bomb right before it pops and explodes.
Except I would probably just fall unconscious. Will will catch me? Will will catch me.
But I couldn't tell him before it happened, because imagine nothing happened, then I would look weak and clingy and asking for too much and that would make the others laugh and no. Just no.
Maybe trying to concentrate on what was currently around me would help?
"We're going on a long walk Seaweed Brain because, a Peter Johnson plus a John Green have decided to walk us far far away from where we should be. So I want no complains from you two."
Not the most helpful, honestly.
I let go of Will's hand and fell backwards. All I could remember was that he managed to catch me seconds before my head hit hard against the ground.
