Ji-ah stepped into the café, grateful for the refreshing blast of air conditioning that offered respite from the scorching summer weather. The heat was especially intense that day, and her office attire only added to her discomfort. Approaching the counter, she placed her order with the temporary staff member before settling into a seat at a nearby table.
Cocoaholic, owned by her middle school classmate Felix, was a regular refreshment spot for Ji-ah and Jisung. Thanks to being acquainted with the owner, the two usually got freebies or discounts. Ji-ah scrolled through her phone while waiting for her drink, a lazy hand propped up under her chin.
Everything was fine until she felt the hair on the back of her neck rise. A feeling of being watched crossed over Ji-ah, and she nonchalantly turned her head. Weird. There's no one.
Ji-ah returned to her phone, but the uneasy feeling didn't go away. Fortunately, her number was called, and she went to the counter to get her drink.
"Oh, hey, Ji-ah!"
"Hey Felix! It's been a while, how are you?" Ji-ah greeted her friend who stood behind the counter.
"I'm good. Busy with the cafe and all. I'm planning to open another one on the other side of the city." Felix replied, his face split into a warm smile.
"Oh wow! That's great-" Ji-ah started to congratulate her friend but was interrupted by another customer.
Felix excused himself as he went to take the order.
With nothing better to do, Ji-ah went back to her seat, drink in hand. She sipped on her coffee while replying to a few emails when she again felt the feeling of being stared at. This time, she turned around swiftly and caught a man looking away.
For a second, Ji-ah hesitated, Should I raise an alarm? What if the man wasn't looking at me and I'm just being paranoid?
She stood up and went over to another table, waiting to see if the man would follow her. The man didn't move from his chair for a few minutes, and Ji-ah almost let out a relieved sigh. But then, he got up and strolled over to the counter before coming and sitting right behind her.
Okay, Ji-ah, let's not make a huge issue out of this. Shs thought to herself and quickly finished her drink. Just as she got up to leave the café, she heard the shattering of glass and a yelp behind her.
Ji-ah turned to find the creepy guy groaning in frustration and a very nervous part timer standing before him. The boy was trying in vain to apologise and clean up for the man.
"WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU LOOKING?!"
"I- I am so s-sorry sir. I'll clean it up." The partimer begged, bowing again and again in apology.
"I don't want your sorry! Do you know how much this shirt costs?! What's your name?!" The man barked a hand on the shaking boy's collar.
"K-kim S-Seung-
"Seungmin! Hey, what's happening here?"
The outburst had brought Felix to the front, where he found his part timer at the mercy of a much larger guy.
"Ah, you must be the owner. Well, your part timer has been a little bitch and ruined my clothes. I want to be compensated, otherwise I'll make sure your puny little shop closes down." The man huffed, looking down on Felix.
"Sir, let's talk about this privately. Right now, I have customers." The cafe owner pleaded.
"NO!" The man bellowed, pushing Felix almost to the ground.
"Okay, I will compensate you. Just tell me how much the shirt costs."
"100,000 won."
"100,000?! Sir, respectfully it doesn't make sense for a shirt to cost so much."
