“Hey, Hannie.”
“Hey, what are you up to?” Jisung said from the other end of the call.
“I'm walking home; almost there.”
“Oh. Did they fix the street lamp yet?”
“Nope.” Ji-ah said. “My landlord has already complained a few times. They say they're sending people. Though no one's here yet.”
“Man, it's dangerous at night.”
“I know, but what can I do? Oh, right, I met the guy from the vet's office again.”
“Which guy?”
“The guy who brought that injured cat when I took Kuro to the doctor.”
“Oh right, right. I remember now.”
“Yeah, he's a very nice guy. Almost charming, you could say. His name is Minho, and he's a security analyst.”
Jisung became quiet for a minute before replying, “Wow, really? That's so cool. Where does he work?”
“Ah, he didn't mention where he worked. Well, I'll ask him the next time we meet.”
“N-next time?”
“Yeah, I got his number so we could stay in touch. You should meet him too; you'd love him instantly.”
“Right… Hey, Ji-ji. I've got to go. Hyunjin's calling me for something. I'll call you later, okay?”
“Huh? Oh, sure. Talk to you later, Hannie! Bye.”
“Bye-bye.”
Jisung cut the call and sighed deeply.
“Why did you lie to her? When did I ever call you?” His roommate asked, munching on some chips. Instead of replying, Jisung only sighed louder.
Hyunjin rolled his eyes and tried to concentrate on the drama playing on his phone, only to be rudely interrupted by Jisung, who kept sighing.
“What?! What?! What is your problem? What did she say now?”
“She met this guy.” Jisung said sadly.
“Okay, and?”
“He's a security analyst.”
“So?” Hyunjin asked again, eating another chip.
“And, I'm still a college student.”
“Han Jisung, I still don't see what you are trying to say.”
“What I am trying to say is the woman I'm in love with has met a guy who is a security analyst while I'm still in college because my dumb brain thought it was better to do my military service earlier. And now, the whole world has moved forward, and people are earning money while I'm still stuck studying. I want to tell Ji-ah how much I love her, but I'm not financially secure enough to provide her a living. And now this guy enters her life, and she says he's charming. Ha! Charming, it seems. B-but what if they end up falling in love and I'm left behind, forever friend-zoned without ever expressing my feelings?!”
“So… you feel insecure?”
“Ugh! Yes, Hwang genius Hyunjin I feel fucking insecure knowing I can't provide the life Ji-ah wants despite being madly in love with her!”
“If you're so anxious, it's best to communicate your feelings to her. And man! You should work on overcoming your insecurities. Based on what I've observed, Ji-ah isn't the type to judge people based on their social status. Plus, the longer you wait, the lower your chances become.”
