The Audi R8 V-10 Offers An Interesting Way To Conserve Fuel
The V-10 engine in the R8 Audi is smarter than you would think. Supercars don't get great gas mileage, but Audi wanted to give it the best MPG it could get. At speeds of under 35 MPH, the dual-clutch transmission decouples both its clutches and changes to a freewheeling operation when the driver's foot is removed from the gas pedal. This allows the car to keep burning fuel without entering deceleration while the momentum of the R8 stays the same. But let's be honest, when are you going to be driving this car under 35 MPH? Probably never.
