Levi's Titan (Attack On Titan Fanfic)

Chapter 38

"...What does that even mean? That you have a child?" Mikasa asked,  looking at the titan incredulously. 

"I might, I just can't seem to remember th-them..." Gaia mumbled, breaking down once again,

"Th-Them?!" Mikasa asked, making the woman sob louder. Eren shot a glare at Mikasa for making Gaia, cry again, but  Mikasa just rolled her eyes at his overprotectiveness, it was very difficult to ignore her curiosity about the topic at hand,

"Mikasa," Armin called and eyed the open door attached to the frame that she was leaning against, Mikasa got the message, they needed some privacy. She leaned back slightly to check if anyone had heard this far.

 She visibly stiffened as she started glaring when her eyes made contact with Jean's shocked ones. His back pressed firmly to the room's outside wall. 

His face gave away that he had heard everything that had just transpired in the room and it lost all colour as Mikasa's threatening gaze darkened as she moved toward him. Running for his life proved to be futile as he felt her hand make its way around the back of his neck, dragging him backward. 

Her beauty often made many forget her brute strength, the kind of strength that allowed her the ability to drag a grown man by his neck with one hand down a hallway and toss his body, as if it were a ragdoll, in a room at neck-breaking speed. 

"I seemed to have found a fly on the wall," Mikasa said, as Jean face-planted on the room's floor, 

Eren's face darkened and Armin grabbed the bridge of his nose, 

"Its safe to assume that he heard everything," Armin said, once he saw Jean's concerned gaze make its way to the female titan, 

"I...I-I mean...Uh... Gaia are you okay?" Jean asked crawling towards her slowly, tears were still making their way down her face, Mikasa rolled her eyes at the extremely obvious question. 

Jean slowly got closer to the girl, she looked slightly worried as well, she had so many questions for herself, she did not have the capacity to prevent people from discovering this secret. She had so much running through her mind, she had to somehow persuade him to not tell anyone, but the moment her teary eyes met his, she saw it- he had no intention on telling anyone, he was worried about her. He gave her a small nod to reassure her as he settle on his knees right in front of the bed. 

Jean had always been different. Despite their constant banter, they had an understanding that was uncommon. Eren and her shared their ability to become a titan, Mikasa although having spent a significant amount of time with her, still seemed weary of her and Armin, much like Hanji was always concerns of the functions of her brain and the development of her thoughts, but Jean... unlike the rest of the regiment that kept their distance from her, he treated her as if she was a person. He never made her feel out of place or that she was somehow the exception to something, he always made her feel as if she had somehow been there all along. Even when she was a titan, he had a mouth on big enough to compete with a large titan mood swings. 

Even right now, while everyone else was trying to figure out how she had children, he looked at her with worry. He looked at her as person who was struggling to fathom how they could forget something so important. He was looking at her as a mother who was devastated that she did not know where her children was. He could almost see her very soul crumbling as she shot off of the bed into his comforting arms, 

"Jeanie...I...I-I..." she tried between sobs, 

"Shhh... I know," He said, holding her tighter.  He rubbed her shoulder in attempt to comfort her. He knew her to always throw tantrums, but this was something else. Listening to her sobs and feeling her limp body shake, broke his heart. She had always been a testy-little-bugger and they managed to make almost every situation they faced together a joke or insult. This bare and vulnerable version of herself made him want to shield her. He could for once understand Eren's protectiveness over her. 

He looked over at Eren who seemed to be having an internal battle with himself also. The boy although not touching her was holding a strand of her hair, it being long enough to still be partly on the bed. Others would not notice another holding the ends of their hair when it was not pulled taught, but Jean had no doubt that Gaia knew that he was holding her hair. 

Eren had said that she was like his mother...That thought baffled Jean, sure he and Gaia were close and they all did not know her age, given that she was shorter than everyone and she did not looked as aged as Hanji and Levi. She looked quite young amongst the captains. If anything she was like a little sister, the term mother did not seem to suite her. Not that she seemed younger than them, they could at least see that she was older than them, but she did not have the worn-out-ness that growing up surrounded by titans gave them.  He could not even begin to imagine her little body carrying a child, let alone children. He was no fool, she and Levi were in a healthy relationship with all the functions that any other relationship would have, they were not exactly secretive about it, but nevertheless, it was difficult for him to imagine.

The  rest of them locked at the pair knowing that there had always been a lack in formality whenever the two of them were involved. 

"I guess he is more 'inner-circle' than I realized," Mikasa mumble, Eren nodded. It was a term that they had come up with referring to the group that usually surrounded the two titans. 

"Levi can't know about this," she whispered, cause Armin to raise a brow. 

"Are you sure about that? It is a big secret to keep," Armin asked, knowing that keeping this from Levi meant keeping it from Hanji as well. He would not be as worried if it were not for the fact that Levi could end him in less than a second. 

"Not until I have more answers, " Gaia said who seemed to finally have calmed down, wiping the last of her tears on Jean's sleeve, she noticed an annoyed twitch on his face which caused her to grin slightly. She then took the same sleeve and blew her nose on it, making Jean's eyes darken. 

"HOW ARE YOU ABLE TO MESS WITH ME RIGHT NOW?!"
