Seina Yamada is a boy living in Okayama who possesses incredibly bad luck for both himself and people around him. One day, as he s travelling to his friend's house on his bicycle, Seina nearly drowns at Tenchi Masaki's home in a freak accident, but is saved by a mysterious woman who invites him to join the "GP" and hands him a strange pamphlet.
The Yamada family general store, seemingly overflowing with customers at one moment, suddenly finds itself completely empty. This is, of course, because Seina Yamada just arrived home.
After twice failing to button up his shirt, tripping and almost getting hit by a falling lightbulb, and tumbling down the stairs, Seina dons a helmet and gets on his bicycle, but the screw holding up the bike's handlebars falls off just as he puts his hands on them and Seina's chin hits the top of the bike. Nonetheless, he starts riding, unaware of more parts falling off his bike. As he rides, he continues inadvertently spreading bad luck to several people, including two schoolgirls, a man listening to a horse race over the radio, a driver whose van starts going haywire, and another girl whose phone suddenly cuts off.
Kashimura, one of Seina's friends, catches up to him on his own bicycle, but Seina's bike trips over a rock in the road and he falls over. At the same time, he caused Kashimura to veer off the road and fall head-first into a rice paddy. Seina continues on and meets another acquaintance named Taguchi, who has an umbrella with him despite the sunny weather. When Seina asks about it, Taguchi says he figured he "might be needing it" since Seina came down here. Indeed, a truck comes by and splashes both of them with mud, though Taguchi's umbrella keeps him dry. Unfortunately, just as Taguchi lowers his guard, an even bigger truck comes by and soaks both him and Seina head-to-toe with mud.
Continuing on, Seina is currently in a hurry, and he decides to take a shortcut through a wooded hill. Nothing happens, but once he clears the hill the bike's rear tire pops. He knows he could get it fixed at his friend Kai's home, but he'd never get there in time. Instead, he takes out a toolbox out of the rear basket on his bike (and proceeds to drop and scatter the tools everywhere) and goes to fetch some water from a nearby lake. As he does so, he notices that he's right next to the home of Tenchi Masaki, though nobody seems to be home at the moment. He gets a bucket of water, but he starts hearing a strange beeping noise and the water begins vibrating. It goes away for a moment, but suddenly something huge crashes into the lake and Seina is caught in a massive tsunami before losing consciousness.
Seina wakes up on the porch of Tenchi's house and in the lap of a mysterious blonde woman in a black suit. She quickly excuses herself for accidentally crashing her ship in the lake and explains that she rescued him from drowning. She then assumes that Seina is being "trained" by Tenchi Masaki and his recent wounds are from him being caught between one of Ryoko and Ayeka's fights.
