"You know, this schedule could be a whole lot worse," Remus scrutinized the thin piece of parchment as he took a quick bite of his sandwich, swallowing quickly to finish his statement, "If I had to guess, Minnie definitely takes a liking to us."
"You think she wrote this up herself?" James added, trying to glance at Remus's schedule.
"It's not like Dumbledore has time for that," Calli said, her gaze shifting to the bearded headmaster, who was currently deep in conversation with Professors Flitwick and Sprout.
"Cal, the man only has time," Sirius objected, "I guarantee you he has a stack of muggle Sudoku puzzles in his chambers waiting for him tonight."
Peter nodded in agreement, his eyes slowly drifting from his friends and towards the Hufflepuff table.
"Minnie is quite unfair though," James scoffed faintly as he directs his attention to Sirius, "I mean, you get to have detention with Calliope first."
Sirius shrugged with a smirk, taking a swift sip of his pumpkin juice.
"James, you only want to have it with me because you think I'll complete your lines for you," Calliope points her index finger towards the boy, "And, I won't this time!"
"Well, yeah, because you'll be busy doing my lines," Sirius teased, prompting James to huff in frustration.
"Both of you, do your own lines," Remus said, gently placing his paper on the wooden table.
"Yeah, you hear that? Do your own lines," Calliope teased, a grin tugging at her lips.
"Can't have Moony protect you forever, Cal," Sirius retorted, James nodding in agreement.
"I'd love to hear you three argue about this, but I've got to head to the library to study," Remus said, sweeping his hand over the crumbs scattered on the table, neatly gathering them onto his plate. He then rose, rubbing his palms against the fabric of his trousers. "Care to come along, Calliope?"
"I'd love to, Rem, but I've got Herbology in ten minutes." Her mouth tilted into a small frown.
"No worries, another time then," Remus replied, picking up his schedule and neatly folding it before slipping it into his pocket. He gave a quick wave to the group as he took long strides away from them.
After a few seconds of chewing, Calliope's hearty bite of her sandwich was abruptly interrupted.
"Hey, Cal?"
"Yes, Peter?"
"Why does Alice Fortescue keep looking over here– and, most importantly, at you?"
Calliope quickly turned her attention to the bottom of the table, meeting the cold, steady stares of Alice Fortescue and Mary MacDonald.
Fuck.
"Uhh...I don't know?" She said as she turned towards Peter, attempting to hide her confused expression.
She stole one more glance down the table, expecting to meet the cold stares of Alice and Mary, but instead, she found Lily's sad eyes fixed on her. The moment their gazes locked, Lily quickly looked away.
Fuck... Again.
"Oh, woah, Lily looks... upset?" Peter said, his brow raised in confusion.
"Lily?" James's head shot up from his conversation with Sirius, prompting Sirius to follow his gaze down the table.
"What the hell?" James muttered, turning away from the woman who used to hold his heart and back to his friends.
"I haven't seen her this upset since the incident with Snivellus," Sirius remarked.
