"Mason can I borrow Nibbles? I need to ask Mom if she can send me some fairylights." Julie asked her brother the next morning. He agreed and she told the other girls, almost skipping from how happy she was. All the gryffindor first years were sitting together in the common room, talking excitedly."Now we just have to wait for the fairylights and the pictures and our dorm will be finished." Lavender said after they sent the letter.
"It's a quarter to nine. We have to meet Professor McGonagall at the Great Hall, remember?" Hermione reminded them after looking at the clock.
They made our way down to the Great Hall together with the Gryffindor boys and arrived just in time. All the other first years already were gathered around McGonagall.
"I wonder what we're going to do." Julie told the Gryffindors who also seemed to be wondering the same thing.
"Good Morning!" Professor McGonagall said and their attention turned to her. "Today you will be exploring the castle on your own in small groups. Each group will be handed a sheet with questions about Hogwarts. There are clues all around the castle which will help you to answer all the questions. I will divide the groups."
Luckily, Julie was in a group with Ron and Hermione, but to her displeasure also with Harry. McGonagall gave them a sheet, which was filled with thirty questions.
1. What animal lives in the Black Lake?
2. Who teaches Divination?
3. Where is the Hospital Wing?
...
30. Who won the House Cup in 1971?"We'll meet again here in two hours." Professor McGonagall said after handing out all the sheets. They decided to quickly write down all the things they already knew and then to find the Trophy Room and Hospital Wing.
"Honestly, how are we supposed to know who won the House Cup in 1971!" Ron said while they were walking.
"They wouldn't ask us a question we can't somehow answer." Hermione stated "Look here's the trophy room."
They all stepped in and looked around. "Look at the big one here. It's for Tom Riddle." said Harry.
"He must've done something really special if he got a trophy that big. Let's write him down" Julie said. Hermione did and she already had written down two other names. They were now wandering around the castle trying to find the Hospital Wing.
Julie noticed that Harry was walking right behind them and not with the group, but didn't think anything of it until-
Trip!
She stumbled over someone's leg, nearly falling flat on her face.
"You did that on purpose!" she said whirling around to meet Harry's eyes, who was wearing that infuriating smirk again.
"I've got no clue what you're talking about" he said, his grinning widening.
"Of course you don't." Julie snapped back, her annoyance boiling.
"Let's go outside. We only need to find out in which direction the forbidden forest is and where the green houses are." said Ron after they walked around the castle for a long time.
They all agreed and went outside. It was a sunny day with a fresh breeze. They walked towards the grounds and came to a halt.
"The forbidden forest is in the north east" Julie said.
"Yes, and the greenhouses are on the right side to Hogwarts. Great, we've finished all our questions with thirty minutes to spare." Hermione finished.
"Let's sit down and relax a bit. I really don't want to spend thirty minutes talking to McGonagall" Ron said and pointed at a bench near to the entrance. They all agreed and sat down.
"I'm starving and it's not even eleven. Why does lunch have to start so late?" Julie said, groaning in frustration.
"Because the classes end at one o'clock." Hermione answered with a knowing smile.
"Now that we're talking about classes. On Friday we have potions together with Professor Snape and the Slytherins. Eveyone says that Snape favours them." Julie said nervously.
Ron answered, but didn't finish: "All the Slytherins are-"
"What are all the Slytherins, Weasley? Better than you lot?"
Julie froze. There he was: Draco Malfoy.
He stood in front of them with his two big friends, Crabbe and Goyle, hovering over them.
"He wanted to say that all the Slytherins are weird and dumb" Julie answered shooting him a cold glare.
"Who are you? I haven't seen you before." Malfoy said, now turning his attention to her.
"Why do you want to know? That's none of your business" Julie answered. She already didn't like his attitude and the way he looked at them, as if they were garbage.
"Well, I want to know if this pretty body also has a pretty name." he said. Julie looked at him in disgust.
She backed away from him. What a creep.
"Leave her alone, you jerk" Harry said standing up. Ron did the same and looked at him furiously and asked: "Who do you think you are?"
Malfoy was about to snap back at them but he was interrupted by a serious sounding voice.
"What are you still doing out here?" Professor McGonagall called angrily. They all looked over to where her voice was coming from and she was standing in front of the entrance hall. "You were supposed to come to the Great Hall ten minutes ago, hurry!"
"This isn't over yet." said Malfoy as he walked away towards McGonagall, Crabbe and Goyle following. Hermione and Julie were walking behind Harry and Ron.
When they arrived at the Great Hall we compared the questions to the solution. Of course we had no mistakes due to Hermione's cleverness. Professor McGonagall told us that we had the rest of the day off as well.
"Are you okay?" Hermione asked Julie the same evening in the common room. "You know because of the Malfoy thing"
"Yes, thanks for asking. Honestly, he's just nasty" she answered throwing her a smile. They both sat on the couch and listened to the boys plotting a plan on what to do Malfoy.
"Let's set his trunk on fire." Ron said.
We all burst out laughing, and Julie couldn't help but feel lucky to have such good friends. Even Harry, despite everything, was part of this strange new friendship.
But as much as Julie wanted to deny it, she couldn't shake the feeling that maybe, just maybe, she was starting to warm up to him.
Just a little.
