"Gi, Don't do this," Jaron begs me, glancing at Roden who is starting to get up out of the river behind us.
I shake my head, furrowing my eyebrows slightly. "If you don't leave now you will miss your chance to return."
His leaf green eyes flicker in what I have deciphered as consent, little gold flecks shimmer and dance across his eyes. As he steps towards me and I step towards him.
We meet and it feels as if our hearts have synced, both finally in rhythm. He cups my cheek in one hand and I run my hand through his fine, silky hair. "You will make a fine king, Sage."
Jaron frowns slightly and trails his fingers across my face before pulling away slowly.
"Go, Sage," I whisper softly, turning around to face Roden who has now recovered as is beginning to advance. The rage coursing through Roden is clear is day, and when I don't hear Jaron leaving I yell again, "Go!"
I tilt my head up slightly hoping it comes of as confidence and not arrogance. I unsheathe one dagger from my belt and glints in the sun, so clean it could function as a mirror. I put one hand out to Roden, offering him to take it. "Roden, it's not to late to stop this nonsense."
Roden doesn't seem to comprehend what I say, the glint in his eye pointed right at me. "Get out of my way, Gi."
"Don't call me that. Only my friends deserve to call me that." I pause and carefully take a step towards him. "If you would open your eyes and see the truth we could be friends once more."
"Gi- Gianna, you don't understand. The crown is mine!" Roden rushes towards me, fury controlling him.
I growl slightly and unsheathe another knife so as he comes at me with and over head strike I easily deflect it to the left and have him stagger past me. I see and opening to get a good slash on his ribs, but choose not to.
My mistake.
Roden turns quickly, breathing heavily with sweat pouring down his brow and feints a hit to my right side. I just having spun around go to block it and in an amazing show of talent Roden reverses the direction of the swing, pulls back and jabs at my side.
I have enough time to see it closing in on my stomach- a fatal spot- and dodge to the left so the blow is not lethal. A cold, dull ache fills me, but no pain. My vision blurs as I double over, blood beginning to pool around my side.
"Gianna- I didn't mean to- I swear." Roden gasps and takes a step back, horrified with himself. "I'm so sorry."
Adrenaline pulses through me and a stand up on shaking legs, I shake my head. "No I'm sorry."
Roden in shock walks towards me, totally ignoring my comment. His sympathy seems to have run out as he begins to vent. "Why does Sage get the crown?"
Roden's eyes meet mine and my frail pink lips whisper to him, "Open your eyes and you heart will burn." Then I slam the hilt of my dagger into his skull, knocking him out cold.
I fall to my knees beside him as he crumples to the ground. Tears begin to flow from my eyes and not from the pain of the wound. How could I do this to Roden? Sure he attacked me, but to hurt anyone made me gag.
I hate myself, I hate what I have done. I sob into my blood covered hands as blood pours from my wound. The world seems to shift and I'm falling, but how is that possible, I'm already on the ground. I vaguely remember noting how I had separated from the pain before the world turned dark and I pass out.
