Genre: Bedroom pop. I stand by my previous statement.
Kind of acoustic-y? It would have the raw sounds of a demo, with kind of a light guitar in the background? Basically 'girl I've always been' & 'Clara Bow' ( definitely with some synths because I can't last without a hint of pop. )This song reminds me of 'Little Freak' by Harry Styles. Not sonically in any way, but in the way where you're thinking about someone in a positive light, whether it be a former love interest, ex-friend, or just the one that got away. You're not thinking about them in jealousy, or in spite that they moved on, you're just thinking about them.
For me, this song really focuses on you were never that close with a person. You never saw the scars that they carried or their birthmarks. You never saw their flaws or their insecurities, maybe because you were too scared to be that vulnerable emotionally, or maybe neither of you opened up. It's when you fall really hard, really fast, even when you're not that close. You never had the chance to get close to them.
With that being said, this song is about an ex-friend who I never really got that close with. Our connection slipped away into a moment in time cause it was never mine. I had a slight soft spot for them because they were really shy, and honestly, I may or may not had feelings for them.
1ST VERSE:
Remember how we used to laugh?
Just fleeting glances in the hall
Always on the edge of close, but never quite there at all
We shared a smile, a passing word
A joke that we'd both understand
But we never dug below the surface,
Never held each other's hand
CHORUS:
Now I'm all alone, the silence screaming your name
And I'm drowning in regret
I wish I had said something more to you
The secrets hidden behind your eyes, stories left untold
A tapestry of hidden fears
Your imperfections, like whispers I'll never hear about
2ND VERSE:
Was I too scared to let you in, or were you guarding your own heart?
Maybe we were both afraid, afraid to tear each other apart
We built a castle of small talk, a fortress of polite lies
And now it's crumbling down around me, under a sky of tear-stained clouds
And I'm left with faded memories and a heart that aches with pain
Knowing that the chance we had will never come again
A whisper on the wind, a teardrop on the pane
A love unlived, a friendship lost, a forgotten name
CHORUS:
Now I'm all alone, the silence screaming your name
And I'm drowning in regret
I wish I had said something more to you
The secrets hidden behind your eyes, stories left untold
A tapestry of hidden fears
Your imperfections, like whispers I'll never hear about
BRIDGE:
Now I see your face in every single crowd
A living ghost of what could've been
I hear your laughter in the wind, chills up my spine like spikes
The whispers of what we might've had
A forgotten friendship, one will say
A life unlived, a lost and lonely embrace
A thousand unspoken words, letters I threw out
You could've been mine if I wasn't caught up in myself
CHORUS:
Now I'm all alone, the silence screaming your name
And I'm drowning in regret
I wish I had said something more to you
The secrets hidden behind your eyes, stories left untold
A tapestry of hidden fears
Your imperfections, like whispers I'll never hear about
OUTRO:
Now I'm all alone, as the silence screams your name
I will never see your face again
Thousands of lives unlived
Shocking, but true
Will I forever be all alone?
